Temptation Knows No Bounds…

Undercover agent Sam Hawkins has devoted his life to protecting king and country. So when he receives orders to assassinate a ruthless traitor, he doesn’t question his mission. But Sam didn’t know his deed had a witness—the beautiful and mysterious betrayer’s wife. Now he has no choice but to take her as his prisoner—one he can neither trust…nor resist.

Élise, Lady Dunthorpe, will do anything to escape her powerful captor—including seducing him senseless. She didn’t know of her miserable husband’s crimes, but she has secrets of her own—secrets that threaten everything she holds dear. With his piercing dark eyes and gentle touch, Sam inflames Élise’s deepest desires, but how could she ever trust a man who won’t let her go? Caught between the crown he’s sworn to serve and the woman he’s come to love, Sam will risk his heart—and his very life—to keep her safe.

My Review

I received a ARC copy through Netgalley and Grand Central Publishing in exchange of a honest review.

Sam works for the crown as a agent, to protect it at all costs. He is ordered to kill a traitor, who has plans to murder the crown. So he does his job, and kills the traitor, but his wife he finds, having heard and seen everything. So he has no choice but to kidnap her and keep her secluded. Sam has no idea what Lady Dunthorpe knows, or she is a traitor as well. Elise, has suffered over a decade of being Lord Dunthorpe’s wife, and even though she is french, she considers herself more English than french. So when she finds her husband killed, and herself being taken prisoner, she has no idea what fate has in store for her, or Sam’s true plans for her. At first Sam questions Elise and the statement she gives, but the longer he spends time with her, he starts to feel drawn to Elise, and feels a desire that he doesn’t want to deny. Now Sam and Elise will have to stick together, when a danger surfaces, one that will put them both on the run trying to survive.

The Scoundrels Seduction is the third book from the House of Trent Series.  Ever since I discovered this author last year, I have been in love with her. The House of Trent series so far has been stimulating and full of adventures. The Scoundrel’s Seduction is just what I was looking for in a book. Lately I have been wanting a story I can really dig my hands into, and The Scoundrel’s Seduction was perfect for what I needed. There is quite a bit of a espionage element, which is always a treat with regency era romances, but Jennifer Haymore definitely put a delightful twist into the plot, that pulls you in.

The Character were exciting, and intense, and full of conflict and variety of dilemma’s that ended up becoming more fascinating to the reader. Samson, is illegitimate, but has never felt the lack of affection from his mother or siblings. He has had to work hard for the position he is in, and is dedicated to his country. He is also desperate to find his lost mother. I found Sam a wonderful hero, dashing, courageous, and protective. I love how he treats Elise, and he is one of my favorite characters from the Trent family so far. I really enjoyed his character and how deeply entrenched he is in the story and the series as well. There are many startling secrets revealed in this story that really shocked me, and I had had the most difficult time putting this one down. Now Elise, well at first she seemed weak and didn’t have much backbone, but she really came through for me by the end. You see a heroine, that has suffered much and like any normal human being has put herself in a shell to protect herself, but the longer she is with Sam, the more she spreads her wings, and you see her flourish. I really loved seeing her transition from being shy and reserved, to a woman that is willing to go after what she wants and let nothing stand in her way.

Overall a outstanding installment, and a story that sizzles from beginning to end. There is quite a bit of steamy interaction in this one, enough to feed a forest fire. The characters are charming, the story is enchanting, and worth every moment. Charmed until the very end!!! LOVED IT!!

Synopsis (Goodreads)
Sometimes It Takes a Scandal…

Abigail Weston has everything: beauty, wit, and one of the largest dowries in England. Her parents hope she’ll wed an earl. Abigail hopes for a man who wants her desperately and passionately. But the money seems to blind every man she meets—except one.

Sebastian Vane has nothing. He came home from war with a shattered leg to find his father mad and his inheritance gone. He’s not a fit suitor for anyone, let alone an heiress. But Abigail lights up his world like a comet, bright and beautiful and able to see him instead of his ruined reputation. And it might end happily ever after…

To Reveal Your Heart’s Desire

…Until Benedict Lennox begins courting Abigail. Ben is everything Sebastian isn’t—wealthy, charming, heir to an earl. Sebastian won’t give up the only girl he’s ever loved without a fight, but Abigail must choose between the penniless gentleman who moves her heart, and the suitor who is everything her parents want.

My Review

Sebastian Vane, has come back from the war injured with a shattered leg. His father is going insane, and when his father disappears, the townspeople believe that he is a murderer, and going mad just like his father did. But when a new neighbor move in, with a beautiful daughter, Abigail, his world changes. Abigail, with her parents and younger sister, have just moved to a country manor. When Abigail meets Sebastian in the woods, she sees a man that protects himself, but needs someone to believe in him. Abigail seems much redeemable in him, and doesn’t believe the vicious rumors. But right when Abigail is sure of her feelings for Sebastian, a newcomer comes to the area, a Benedict Lennox, who is persistent in his pursuit of her. Now Abigail will have to make a choice: a man that is wealthy and everything her parents want for her, or a man that has won her heart.

It Takes A Scandal is the second book in the Scandals Series. and the most recent book from  Caroline Linden. I have always enjoyed this author quite a bit, but I was really excited to read this one. I did enjoy the first book, so I was wondering how this book would compare, and it passed all my expectations for it. When I first read the synopsis, I was thinking, that it would probably be a enjoyable read, but wasn’t sure if it would be memorable, and after reading it, I am impressed with the way Linden wove this story. It begins with seeing Sebastian Vane, in search of his missing father, who has recently come back from the war, and is trying to live on meager funds where he barely makes it by. Then he rescues Abigail mothers puppy, and it seems like romance blossoms between them. The first half of the story seems to be a slow and steady love story, where Sebastian and Abigail start to slowly fall in love, and then everything goes crazy when a newcomer comes courting Abigail. This is when things start to really heat up, because this newcomer used to be Sebastian’s childhood friend. So tensions are high, and you start to see how strong their connection is, and I loved how Sebastian fought for Abigail, even knowing that he has little to give her but himself.

Sebastian and Abigail were so beautiful together, and I loved them as a couple. At first it seems like Abigail is a normal England miss, however as you go chugging along in the story, you develop a appreciation for her character, and she develops a backbone, she is feisty and a fighter and I totally cheered her on especially toward the end. Sebastian is the tortured hero, despite his bad fortune, he still has dignity and pride, and feels somewhat worthy of Abigail’s affections. At first he didn’t seem too willing to really fight for her, but he proved me wrong, and what a great way he does it too. There is a slight mystery element packed into the plot, but it doesn’t overshadow the romance, and I felt like the love story between Sebastian and Abigail is the center focus of the story, and all the other elements are just icing on the cake. The side characters, especially Abigail’s family were witty and fun and engaging. Easy to relate with my own family, and I loved seeing the affection and silly bantering between them.

Overall a mesmerizing romance that is steady paced, sensuality extreme, with a wonderful love story to weaken the knees and have you cheering for this couple!! Guaranteed to overwhelm the senses.  OUTSTANDING AND WELL DONE!!

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.

Lady Eilis Dunbarton didn’t think life could get any worse, until her loving cousin dies and Eilis learns she is to wed the man her cousin was to marry. Not by a change of contract, though. Instead, by deceit. If he learns she is not her cousin, Agnes, her life is forfeit. Crossing the Irish Sea, her ship sinks, she survives, but temporarily loses her memories. When a Highland Clan takes her in, she remembers one thing. She must flee at all costs and disappear. She knows if her family learns of her whereabouts, her life is over.

James MacNeill must take a bride or give up his holdings to one of his younger brothers. Malcolm has already taken to wife, the fair Lady Anice of Brecken. Dougald is the next one in line to govern the MacNeill Clan if James does not wed and provide an heir. But when James discovers his cousin and advisor have rescued a half-drowned lass from the sea, there’s speculation she is of the enemy clan. Returning her to them is his plan, since he has no intention of using one of their lasses as a bargaining tool. But his mother has another notion — use the lass as a means to entice one of the ladies he is interested in marrying, to visit him and commit to marriage. And then return her to her clan, if she is agreeable.

Only nothing works out as anyone plans.

No one knows the true identity of the mysterious madam who runs London’s most notorious brothel, The House of Dreams. This is the place where a man’s wildest dreams can come true, but even in his most secret fantasies, Robert St. John has not imagined the pleasure he will find or the danger he will court while seducing its mistres

He’s been her ultimate untouchable desire.

Nothing says happy birthday like a rock god flying thousands of miles to surprise a woman he’s never met. But that’s exactly what happens to Gabi Smith when she gives her long distance best friend a flippant invitation to her laid back girl’s night out. She never expected to turn on the dance floor and find Blake Kennedy’s gaze holding her body captive.

She’s his everything and he’s never laid eyes on her.

Gabi means more to Blake than life itself. She’s his strength, his savior, and the only person who helped to vanquish his demons. No one means more to him than his angel. So when things between them start to sizzle, he’s ready to fight for the future he never thought he would deserve.

Skeletons from his past will threaten his only chance at love…

Blake has come a long way—with Gabi’s help—to leave the hell of his youth behind him, but sometimes memories don’t want to stay buried. Determined to stand on his own for once, Blake is willing to stretch the truth to keep his troubles from burdening the woman he adores.

Keira, warrior-queen of the galaxy, is as famous for her beauty as she is for avoiding marriage. But when an upstart little planet called Earth threatens her world with its fleet of spaceships, the fate of her people lies in her hands. She must bind herself to a barbarian from the rogue world–or face the destruction of her own! She’s what he never knew he always wanted–

Confirmed bachelor Jared Jasper knows that the trick Earth pulls on the alien invaders isn’t a permanent solution. What they need is a peace treaty. It just never occurs to him that he will wind up on the bargaining table. Playing the pushover groom to a mouthy alien babe who knows how to use a plasma sword is not exactly his idea of fun. But with six billion people depending on him, he doesn’t have much choice–sleep with the enemy…or bring on interstellar war.

Strange bedfellows? You bet.

But this alliance may turn into a romance the likes of which this galaxy’s never seen!

Synopsis
A duke who needs to be tamed . . . a lady who refuses to be rescued.

Adam Chamberlin was the third son of a duke, known for gambling binges and drunken nights. No one expected anything of him . . . until tragedy strikes. Now Adam is the new Duke of Rothford, determined to right the wrongs he’s done. Except a secret in his past means helping the one woman who doesn’t want his help at all.

It’s not every day that a duke introduces himself to a woman sitting by herself in Hyde Park. Faith Cooper is even more surprised when Adam offers her a position as a lady’s companion to his elderly aunt. Faith refuses to be beholden to a man again—certainly not this man, who both infuriates and attracts her. But with passion simmering between them, will Faith surrender to forbidden desire?

My Review

Adam Chamberlin, The Duke of Rothford, has returned from serving in the army, after his two older brothers are killed by a fever, and now he is the new Duke of Rothford. Adam never expected such responsibility to be heaped on his shoulders. Even though before he enlisted, he was a rogue, who loved women, drinking and gambling. Now he has changed, and not just because of his new status. Over the years he has changed from a young man with no care, to a man tormented with his own demons wanting redemption and forgiveness. When he and three of his friends make a pact, to seek redemption for a decision that changed their lives….the one woman that give him full redemption is Faith Cooper. Faith, even though raised differently, has no choice to seek a position as a servant, when her brother is killed, and she and her mother must fend for themselves. She knows that she will probably live a life as a spinster, even though she craves a man to love. She is shocked with a Duke comes to her, offering her a place of refuge and a position that would alter her life. Faith is independent, and doesn’t want to lose what she has worked hard for. But there is a attraction between Faith and Adam, one that neither can deny…a attraction that could heal both of them and have them believing in happy ever after and a future if they will trust in the love they hold for one another…

Redemption of The Duke is the third installment in this latest series by Gayle Callen. Over the years I have come to appreciate Callen’s writing and the beautiful way she weaves a romance, and so I had high hopes for this one. Especially after reading the blurb and boy this cover…is just sexy right? Well this book is full of intense characters, sensual scenes, and a wonderful love story that makes your heart skip a beat. The only big issue I had with this book was how long it took me to get into it. It did take a while, I was finding it very enjoyable but wasn’t fully into the story until about 1/3 of the way through, and then I felt like the pace picked up and then that is when the story really got interesting. the later half of the story I was having a hard time putting down, and I really enjoyed seeing Adam and Faith come together. There is quite a bit of tension and conflict between the two, especially in the beginning. But we see that after they overcome some issues, their romance blossoms, and things between them start to come together. Of course then we see a bit of a mysterious element inserted into the story. and then the plot really thickens, and there was definitely enough material in this story to give it that romantic flair that tug at those heartstrings.

Overall a stunning romantic tale of two people that need each other more than they realize. Two people that both need redemption and will only find it in each other. With a light sensual twist, characters to make your day brighten, and a plot that will keep you guessing until the end. QUITE REMARKABLE!!!

Will you be able to guess who is behind it all? Read it and find out!! 🙂

The Temptation of Anna Jacobs
Dangerous Liasons (2)
Robyn Dehart

Love and justice…

When Drew Foster is released from prison, he doesn’t much care about salvaging his soiled reputation. Though he’s working undercover, everyone in Victorian London believes him guilty of the Jack the Ripper murders and that his brother paid for his “innocence.”

Despite her genteel upbringing, Anna Jacobs is intent on finishing medical school and becoming a physician. Society’s ridicule has never bothered her, but when her brother, the Yard’s best detective, is scorned for letting Drew go, she confronts the one man who can set the record straight at a ball. She certainly doesn’t count on the rogue being dashing and handsome, nor on him stealing a passionate kiss.

Anna’s brazen contempt for his dangerous reputation captivates Drew, but he is harboring secrets that make him unfit to court any proper woman. As he finds himself an outsider among his colleagues at Scotland Yard, the feisty beauty offers up her medical knowledge to assist him on the case. But when the real killer returns to London to continue his reign of terror, can Anna find safety in Drew’s arms?

INTERVIEW WITH ROBYN DEHART
-Could you tell us 5 random things about yourself.

1. I met my husband on an online dating site

2. I’m a born and raised Texan though right after I got married, we lived in Tennessee for 4 years.
3. We adopted our girls from the foster-care system. (adoption rocks!)
4. I’m scared of heights and water critters (though I do love aquariums)
5. I would go to Walt Disney World every year if we could afford it – we’re currently planning our first trip to take our girls in 2015)

-What is your favorite aspect about writing? What inspired you to write?
Probably when I’m working on a scene and things really click with my characters, that’s when the magic happens and the words fly. It doesn’t happen everyday, but when it does, it’s awesome. I’ve really always been a writer, always wanted to write. I guess the stories were just always in me.
– Tell us a bit about Temptations of Anna Jacobs

Well, it’s the second book in my Dangerous Liaisons series, an historical romantic suspense series about Jack the Ripper. In this sequel, Drew (younger brother to the hero from book one) has been recently arrested under suspension of being the famed killer. He begins working undercover for Scotland Yard to try and find the killer and ends up working with the heroine, Anna, who is a medical student.

-Do you have a favorite character? Tell us about him/her
I love both of them, for different reasons. But Drew is pretty special. He’s a recovering addict and he was a challenging character to write. But his love for Anna is so pure and sweet and she really brings light back into his life.
-What made you decide on writing Historical Romance? and why?
When I first started reading romance, historical romance is where I started. I fell in love with it and have always had a penchant for history, especially English history. It was a natural fit for me.
-What is the easiest and/or hardest part about writing?
I don’t think there’s anything easy about writing, but I suppose the part that I don’t struggle that much with is dialogue. That’s where the story comes alive for me, it’s the first thing I write and I can usually get something going with dialogue if I’m stuck. The hardest part? Knowing that something’s not right/not working and not knowing how to fix it. This is especially difficult with characters, if a character isn’t coming clear to me, then the writing is very difficult.
Do you have a favorite genre to read for fun?

I read several genres, but my favorites are historical romance and romantic suspense – any wonder why I merged the two for this series. 🙂
-Do you have a specific spot you like to write? or is it anytime, anywhere?
Somewhere quiet is always my first preference, but not always easy with two young children.
-If you could travel to any time, which would it be and why?
As much as I love history, I’m practical enough that I know I would not have done well living without indoor plumbing. But if I could go somewhere just to visit it and then come right back for modern conveniences, I suppose I would have liked to have seen the late Victorian era – all the industrialization and inventions. It was a really cool time with so much potential.

-Do you have any favorite books or author you love to read from?

I have my go-to authors when I want to fall into a story I know I will love. I love Suzanne Enoch, JD Robb, Teresa Medeiros and Jim Butcher.

Thanks for stopping by Robyn Dehart, it was great getting to know more about yourself!!

Throwback Thursday (27) Historical Romance Edition: You Belong To Me

Throwback Thursday is a new meme hosted by Buried Under Romance and Love Saves The World, and since I just love Historical Romance I decided to participate.

What Is Throwback Thursday? Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or image from their past–usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book related Throwback Thursday.

Here Are The Rules: 1. It must be posted on a Thursday. 2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008

In all the world, no man exists who can tame Alexandra Rubilov. A fiery and beautiful free-thinker, Alex’s steadfast refusal to marry has frustrated her hapless father. And so he creates a “long-forgotten” agreement and sends his rebellious daughter away, ly maintaining that Alexandra has been promised since childhood to the handsome, insufferable libertine whom she must now accompany to his homeland to wed.

Dismayed to find himself suddenly engaged, Count Vasili Petroff plans to repulse his unwanted fiancee by acting the perfect cad, unaware that wily Alexandra plans to follow a similar path. But the road to deception is a rocky one and its many unexpected turns can lead two reluctant companions to a most unanticipated destination: that place called passionate love.

Why You Belong To Me?
I just love this story, it is packed with plenty of sensuality and romance and that characters in this story are stellar!!
