Her plans are threatened, however, when she finds herself alone and in danger with no apparent way out. Connall Gunnach is traveling to the United States to attend the wedding of his brother when he is bombarded with panic. However, the panic is not his own. He realizes his destined mate is in peril and he must find her before it’s too late. But when he does, he discovers she already has a champion and a massive chip on her shoulder…and he is a man of many secrets. Will Connall be able to convince her to trust him and him alone? Will Pepper be able to put aside her past hurts in order to fully embrace her destiny?
I recently have fallen in love with Tracey Jane Jackson, and so far I have loved this series. This is the second book, and I decided it would be good to read this series in order…so I am. Bound By Fire, revolves around Pepper and Connall. Both of these characters we see from the first book. Connall is the brother of Kade (The King of the Caulde Ane). His mate, is Pepper’s best friend. Pepper has been keeping secrets from everyone that she knows and loves, but only to protect them. When she gets herslelf in a situation she has no way out of, she meets Connall who senses the panic of his mate. Connall has gone hundreds of years, without the hope of a mate until he meets Pepper, and then he knows that she is his destiny.
This was such a intense yet romantic story that just has totally won me over. From the first book, I could tell I would adore this series and so far my instinct is right. I love the voice of this storyteller, that has created a world that is full of mystery and magic. I really enjoyed the take on this installment, and how different it was from the first book. We see such a deep development of characters in this story, and I enjoyed Pepper–she has pizazz and spunk. She is a fighter and boy does she argue with Connall in every moment—quite enjoyable seeing their interactions with each other. Connall…is well very swoon worthy, he was such a great hero, and I loved him from the beginning. He definitely deserves someone that can handle him, and Pepper keeps him on his toes.
Overall a fun and intense plot that kept me on edge and without being descriptive, a fully romantic and sensual romance that will have you craving for more. A sweet and poignant story to keep a tissue on hand. SIMPLY WONDERFUL!!
Guests will include Jackson Quincy Graham Channing, New York City banker, and Lady Theodosia “Teddy” Winslow, wedding planner to the finest families in England.
Introductions shall be followed by light conversation, dancing, flirtation, arguing, reconciliation, and an impulsive kiss that both parties are quite certain they will never repeat.
Until they do.
A mutually beneficial fake engagement will be accompanied by all manner of very real complications, scandalous revelations, nefarious schemes, and one inescapable conclusion:
That true love–unlike the perfect wedding–is impossible to plan. . .
I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Kensington/Zebra Publishing and Netgalley.
So Victoria Alexander, is a personal favorite, when it comes to regency romances…probably one of the best in that genre. When I first started reading Regency, Victoria Alexander was at the helm alongside with Lisa Kleypas and Sabrina Jeffries, just to name a couple. Her recent series, Millworth Manor has been quite fun to read. Not as fun as her earlier books, but are quirky and unique and original.
In this story, we have the uncle, Basil Channing, the adventurer and flirty and charming man of the family. He has never settled down, but in The Shocking Secret Of A Guest At The Wedding we learn the reason why he has never had a family, and its only partly due to his adventurous spirit. Well he has a son he had no idea about, and a wife that he is still married to, who was suppose to annul their marriage, thirty years previous. So Basil has had the shock of his life, but his son–Jackson Quincy Graham Channing, has a father that is living and breathing and he is shocked and outraged. The book starts off with him meeting his father for the first time, and seriously the mother–she has serious issues, I never really understood them, but after you read the whole book, you start to become more understanding. But in the beginning, I was a bit upset myself. So when his father informs him that he is the only living male heir in the family, well Jackson has gone from a banker to a titled lord…and heading off to England to meet the rest of the family. They rush over to Millworth Manor for the wedding of Gray and Camille (The first couple of the series), and it was quite fun to see the rest of the family in their witty comadarie. At the wedding reception, is where Jackson, meets a friend of the family, and the wedding planner, Theodosia or Teddy. ( I love that name…so pretty).
Theodosia, has been barely keeping herself and her mother afloat, after her father died when they were ruined from a business deal gone wrong, and the villain…Theodosia’s ex fiancee. She definitely hasn’t had it easy, but since they are under society’s eye, they need extra funds, and so her event planning has made that possible. When she meets Jackson, she doesn’t want to believe in its genuine interest in her, and she tries to push him away from pursuing her, but Jackson, knows that what is between them is real and doesn’t allow her to treat him so. I loved the way this pair comes together, with involvement of the family, seeing Jackson come into his new identity, and seeing Theodosia realize what true love is all about. Now I will be honest, I didn’t always like Teddy, I really didn’t like the way she treats Jackson at times. Not that she is cruel or anything, more than anything her pride gets in the way of their relationship–thankfully Jackson has a shell of ice, but he doesn’t take it, he stands up to her and tells her when she goes too far. They were a fun match, and it was quite entertaining seeing them work through all the kinks. There is quite a focus of the development of their relationship on the emotional level–but no worries my dears…there is plenty of heated sensual moments to satisfy your romantic cravings!!
Overall a tale that is all about adventure, and the love is the greatest one of all, full of mystery and surprises around every corner. SUCH A DELIGHT!!
“I’ve always rather fancied adventure although I’ve never been an especially adventurous sort myself,”
“You don’t need to be.”
She drew her brows together in confusion “I don’t?”
“You’re a beautiful woman with hair the color of fine mahogany, flashing emerald eyes, and a air of confidence and assurance about you. You are an adventure”
” A man doesn’t change who he is deep down inside. I think stodgy and straitlaced was no more than a chapter in your life you are now moving past. And whether I wished it or not, you were indeed my hero.” That annoying, rational voice faded, overcome by the louder thud of her heart. “And I suspect, if we were truly to be married…” Her gaze locked with his. “You always would be.”

Jacquie D’Allesandro is a author that I have been reading since I first became hooked on romance. Whenever I see her name, I always think of her fondly, because her books are always fun and full of
adventure and unique plots that you don’t see right away. I haven’t had the chance to read her a ton though, but Not Quite A Gentleman has been on my TBR pile for quite some time and so I decided that I would try to bring that pile a inch or two lower by picking this one up from the shelves. I am very glad that I did.
This story is one that involves a ex spy doctor who tends to collect animals wherever he goes. His match in every way: the ever proud Lady Victoria Wexhall. Victoria first meets Nathan, when he steals a kiss that changes her life, but never to see him again. Now its been three years, and their lives are much different. Nathan is no longer a spy working for her father, he has been “forced” to resign over something that wasn’t his fault, but was accused anyway…not he is a country doctor, content with his life. Until he learns that Victoria’s life is in danger, and only Nathan can protect her, and seeing her again might lead him back into a life of redemption. There are some missing jewels, that he lost by a unknown enemy, three years ago, jewels that belong to the Crown. His mission now: Protect Victoria and find those missing jewels, believed to be in the area. So Victoria and Nathan join forces, and a passion erupts between them. Neither Nathan or Victoria really want to be attracted to each other…but each time they kiss…its like magic and they can’t resist how the fireworks that seem to erupt when they are near each other.
I love historical espionage romances…they are so fun to read at times..especially when one is in the mood for them. Which at the time I was reading this, I was in the mood for it. I was hoping that this would be a story to remember…and it certainly was. There was many things that I enjoyed about this story, but there was a couple of things I did have some issues with. The flow of the story…I wish it was as smooth as whipped cream, but I am sorry to say it wasn’t like that. I had a hard time sometimes keeping up with the story. After I finished the book, it seemed like overall, it didn’t have a smooth flow of story line that I am used to, so it tended to be a bit rough around the edges but I found the story itself to be enchanting. The plot was evenly paced, I didn’t feel like it was too slow going, or too quickly moving…just right. It was a perfect read for a nice crisp fall morning. I really enjoyed the sensual encounters between Nathan and Victoria…much more erotic than I would expect…but they were playful too. It was interesting seeing these two learn each other both physically and emotionally….seeing them really build up a relationship, and what a romance this turned out to be. Phenomenal in every way.
The characters themselves…were just fantastic, I had no issues with either of them. In fact, I liked them both really well. Another problem I had with the book, was I wasn’t able to connect with the characters fully in the way I enjoy doing most of the time. They were both really well developed and they had fun interactions…but I guess I couldn’t connect with them 100% and that detracted enjoyment I would normally get. However saying that…I want to say I really loved both Nathan and Victoria. Nathan…well he is the type of hero to make you whimper….I loved him!! He is such a romantic…you would never see a ex spy and practical doctor being so sentimental at times…and I loved the way he wooed Victoria. It was endearing and I just wished I could trade places with the heroine so I could experience a bit of courting, that was so romantic…I wanted to cry in envy. Now onto Victoria….so is a good match for Nathan. She doesn’t hold anything back and I really liked that quality about her. She is very upfront and loyal and I really felt I could admire her. The only thing I would change is wishing that she would fight for Nathan a bit more…I don’t want to spoil the story, but I do wish she had been a bit more challenging in that regard.
Overall I found Not Quite a Gentleman to be a story of redemption, spicy romance, throw in some suspense and mystery….and you have a delightful love story that is bound to give you tingles and a smile on your face!! ORIGINAL AND EXCITING!!
Nathan moved slowly toward her, like a jungle cat stalking his prey. Surprise flashed in Victoria’s eyes, then she drew herself up and raised her chin another notch, meeting his gaze unflinchingly. If Nathan had not been so irritated with her, he would have admired her pluck. She might be a thorn in his side, but she wasn’t a coward.
“You’ll never find it,” She insisted. “It’s hidden in a place where you will never locate it,”
Nathan allowed his gaze to wander slowly down, then up her form. When his eyes once again met hers, he said softly, “You’re wearing it. The question is, is it tucked into one of your garters, or” –he glanced down at the swell of creamy skin rising from her bronze bodice— “nestled between your breasts?”
“You’ll not bully me into giving you the note,” she said, her voice not displaying the slightest tremor.
Nathan planted a hand on each wall, bracketing her in. “I’ve never had to bully a woman into giving me what I want, Lady Victoria.”
