My Review

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca.
I have always loved paranormal historical romances…a mixture of my two favorite sub genres in romance, but I hate to say that I had a hard time with this one. There were some aspects that I enjoyed, aspects that was different and unique in a way that really pulls you in at the beginning, but when I got to the middle of the book, I really had to force my way through portions of it, because I did want to find out how these find their HEA. This author can be a hit or miss for me, and this story really felt off for me, and so I had a difficult time keeping my attention on the story, I felt like the consistency of the writing was a little off, and that threw me off kilter as I was reading. The story is pretty well set up and I enjoyed seeing the paranormal element mixed in with it, a element of not just a shifter dragon (who is sexy hot!) but also of haunting ghosts, as I was reading this I kept thinking that I wished that I had been able to read this during “All Hallows Eve” the theme of the story would have been perfect. I did like the characters, they added some fun elements to the plot, and they were the reason I wanted to keep going…I loved this pair and seeing them together was enchanting. Overall, even though the story didn’t fully meet my expectations, there were many exciting and sensual moment that were engaging, with paranormal twists and turns….STUNNING!

My Review

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca.

Sinfully Ever After is the second book in this series, and the first book I have ever read from this author. Now some of you may wonder why I gave it a lower rating, well I wish I could say that I fell in love with this one, but frankly I had a hard time keeping up with this one. Now I will say that there were some aspects I really enjoyed, but the consistency was way off, and had a hard time keeping focus on the story. The beginning started out good, in my mind at the time, I was excited, thinking this story would capture me completely, until I met the heroine and I didn’t like her very well. I really had a tough time with her character, mostly because she treats Luke horribly. When they first meet, they cross words and Rebecca comes to Luke with good intentions, wanting him to save her brother’s foolhardy action, and Rebecca ends up owing Luke a kiss, now skip ahead five years. Rebecca is twenty too years old, and Luke is thirty seven. This is a bit of a may and december romance. They are about fifteen years apart. Now for some of us that may seem like a huge distance, but not really. If you look at the time period, these type of marriage were very common. My own grandmother had a thirteen year distance with my grandfather. So it is more realistic than we think.

The story is about Luke coming home after being thought dead by his brother, having made his own way in the world, fought in the war, and has come back with a injured leg and a faithful companion of a dog who never leaves his side. When he comes to his home, to his brother, and to the daughter he has never known, he meets up with Rebecca, a lovely mature woman who is still unmarried, and owes him a kiss. The moment they kiss, his life changes, but Rebecca has high expectations from a man, and the last thing she wants is a rake. When Luke finds that he feels a pull to Rebecca, he endeavors to change his behavior and show her that he can be a true gentleman…well Rebecca is more stubborn than a mule. Rebbeca is very picky, and knows exactly what she wants. She is already being courted by another man that fits every bill, except he doesn’t keep her up at night dreaming of his kisses, or the desire he stirs in her.

What I liked was the way this story was so lighthearted and full of wit and humor. I can almost imagine that Jayne Fresina has a great sense of humor, because you can see it come through in the story and the writing style. What I didn’t feel in this story, was the connection between Rebecca and Luke, at least not fully. At times I felt it, but it was a bit scattered throughout the book, and at times I had a difficult time keeping up with it, and the flow felt a bit off. I enjoyed the set up, and some of the scenes were quite engaging and fun. I loved the sense of a sweet and playful romance that comes through…but it just didn’t fully come through for me. I would love to read the first book though, because I am just aching to read Luke’s brothers story. Overall a enjoyable pastime in this cooler weather with a steaming cup of cocoa on hand. FUN AND PLAYFUL!!

Favorite Quote

“I feel light as a feather,” she whispered as he removed her hair pins, one by one.
“Because tonight and from this moment on, you have no troubles.”
“That’s impossible. There is always something to worry about. Life would be very dull without the downs to make the ups.”
He chuckled. “Very well then, but from now on, we will share those troubles, eh?”
“As long as you share yours with me.”
“Oh, I mean to share my everything with you, Gingersnap.” he replied huskily.

My Review

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books.

I have come to really like this series so far, and it has been a unqiue take on fairy tales. I have admireed this author, and seeing the way she weaves a story togther, in a way that enchants you. I first fell in love with Marina Myles when her first book came out. Even though I enjoyed this very short book–took me about 20 minutes to read, so it just breezed by, and if you are looiking for a short interlude, that has a quick romance with some twists of magic and other intriguing elements, with a Christmas theme. As far as the theme of the love story, goes, I liked the way it formed and was set up. I enjoyed the minor conflict but I will say I felt something missing from the story. It may be due to the fact that it was so short, I have seen this with novella’s at times in the past, it is hard to get a good foundation for a story with only 60 pages. But I enjoyed the twist of “Hansel and Gretal” fairy tale on this one, and it had some fascinating portions of the story that really intrigued me.So overall a charming love story.

Synopsis
Savannah Cavenaugh became a top art thief thanks to a secret ability—a dragonmorph, she can literally fly away from the scene of the crime. Next up: stealing a priceless painting out from under the snout of Lord Relobu, North America’s fearsome dragon ruler. True, she’s never had to work in the midst of Earth’s most polarizing wedding before. Keeping her true identity hidden will demand she get creative, to say the least.

Cameron Shaw has one last chance to prove himself. As Lord Relobu’s interim head of security, he needs to ensure the world’s very first interspecies wedding happens without a hitch. That means keeping an extra close eye on the wedding planner’s pretty young assistant. She’s adorable, but something’s not quite right…

Fumbling her way around bouquets and linens turns out to be the least of Savannah’s problems. Crushing on Relobu’s hottest human henchman was not part of the plan, and neither was revealing her—achem—ferocious side. But when her archrival shows up to nab the very same painting she’s after, all bets are off…

My Review

I was given a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review.

I was going into ‘Till Dragons Do Us Part’ with excitement and thrilling anticipation, and I hate to say it but I was disappointed. A little while back I was able to read the first book “Never Deal With Dragons” and I loved that book!! Now what was fun was seeing some old characters, from that book, In this story, its their wedding, and a public one at that. Cameron Shaw is the man in charge of security and Trian’s best friend (Trian is the groom). Savannah, is a thief, plain and simple, as a dragon shifter, she goes in and steal a artifact, and leaves, and now she has a job, to steal a painting. But there is one problem, Cameron seems to be always in her way. She poses as the wedding planners assistant, and Cameron and Savannah begin to really like each other, and Savannah, start to doubt her profession, and would love to retire and be with Cameron instead. This is a shorter book, not very long, only 179 pages, but it was not a easy read, why do you ask? Well let me tell you…the love story, the romantic connection…not really there at all. I felt like it went from the hero and heroine liking each other, to almost immediately falling in love, with hardly spending any time together. It did have a good plot if you take the love story out though, I enjoyed seeing the heroine, being less than perfect. But what bothered me most about this story was there wasn’t much focus on the romance of the story, which is my FAVORITE part!! I was very disappointed, since this isn’t the first time I have read this author, and I would still recommend her, but start with the first book first!! It did have some fun scenes and I enjoyed certain elements of the story that kept me reading!! A FUN STORY!!
