Synopsis
New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell continues her dazzling series, The Brides of Wishmore

He had a noose around his neck and a price on his head…

Sabrina Davidson, dutiful daughter, avowed spinster, thought she’d secured a place for herself in Aberfeldy society—until her hard-earned acceptance of her fate is challenged by the arrival of Cormac Enright, Earl of Ballin, trained physician, soldier of fortune, and convicted felon.

A prim and proper miss was the last thing he needed…

Mac is determined to clear his name, but first he has to find the man whose testimony sentenced him to a hangman’s noose. Of course, Robert Davidson is missing and protecting Mac is Davidson’s daughter, the most entrancing, frustrating, beguiling, stubborn woman Mac has ever met.

And it doesn’t help that he has already tasted her kisses. Or that he has found in her a passion for life and adventure to rival his own.

Mac has turned Sabrina’s world inside out—but what will happen when he leaves?

Or will the Groom Say Yes

My Review

I received a ARC from Avon Book and Edelweiss in return for a honest review.

Mac, finds himself in jail, and sentenced to be hanged for a crime he didnt’ commit…murder. But then he is aided to escape and even though he could leave the country and start a new life he just wants to be cleared of all charges and find the real murderer. And he has a name, the name of the man who bore testimony against him in court, Robert Davidson. So Mac goes in searching for Davidson, in wanting justice and a dose of honesty from the man. Sabrina Davidson, has been a loyal daughter, after years of taking care of her mother who was a invalid, and now two years have passed since she has lost her mother. Her father she rarely sees, but she care for dearly. When walking home, she comes upon a man that is close to death, and so she brings him home and helps aid him in healing. When he awakens though, she learns of some startling truths that come revealed, truths that lead back to her father and uncle, and soon Sabrina will have to choose between the duty to her family or the man she loves….

The Groom Says Yes is the third book in the series by Cathy Maxwell. This author has been one of my favorites in the past, but lately her books haven’t really stirred me lately. So I was a bit apprehensive upon reading this one, however after reading it, even though it doesn’t have the full spark of her past books, I did see parts of it. The story itself has a solid plot that is full of mystery and intrigue and has some twists and turns to keep you guessing. However I felt like there were sections of the story that didn’t really feel like I could connect with. The romance between Mac and Sabrina wasn’t really there until the last part of the book, which was a bit disappointing. It didn’t take me too long to read this story, however I did feel like through some portions of the book I had to force myself to continue. Then there were other sections that I couldn’t get through fast enough. So the pacing of the story wasn’t steady and constant, there were definitely bumps here and there, but I did enjoy reading this one, especially the later half of the story.

The characters in this one were very interesting. Mac is a Irish nobleman, and is wrongly accused and he is determined to find the real murderer, no matter what happens to him. He is strong and enjoys life, he doesn’t hold anything back, but he is also caring and understanding. Sabrina, well I liked her a bit. I feel like she could have had more backbone, she does eventually show it, but I felt like her character was a bit whiny, I liked her in the end, but didn’t love her. They do seem like a good pair, and I did find myself  enjoying the style of the story and the way they slowly unravel. The mystery in the story is pretty wonderful and really surprised me in the end. It is what really kept me fully invested in the story, and you see how Mac and Sabrina work well and fight well together.

A romantic tale of intrigue, danger, mystery and passion. A story that will tie you up in knots, and keep you going. A SATISFYING ROMANCE!!

Synopsis
What happens when a bride says maybe?

She’d once been the toast of London, but now scandal has brought her down. Still, pretty, petted Lady Tara Davidson can’t believe her new fate. She had wanted to marry for love . . . but her profligate father has promised her hand to none other than Breccan Campbell, the “Beast of Aberfeldy” and laird of the valley’s most despised clan! Well, Tara may have to marry him, but Breccan can’t make her love him—can he?

What happens when the groom insists?

Breccan Campbell is nobody’s fool. He knows that Tara is trouble. Yet he’s determined to reform the Campbell name even if it means forging an alliance with the arrogant beauty. There’s no doubt that Tara is a challenge, and Breccan loves nothing more. For he’s vowed to thoroughly seduce Tara—and make her his in more than name alone.

My Review

Lady Tara, has just lost the love of her life because of foolish actions. Now her sister is married, but she is shocked to discover that her father has already in deep debt because of his gambling, and she will have to pay the price…marriage to Breccan Campbell. However Tara, is not about to marry Breccan, so she runs away as fast as she can. Breccan, knows he isn’t the most handsome of men. He is bulky, muscular and large, but desires a beautiful wife so that his children will be attractive. Breccan is ready to settle down and has decided on Tara for a wife. When Breccan hears that she has run away, he chases after her. When he finds her, she is dressed in boy clothing, and full of fire and passion. They come to a agreement, after she gives him two children, she is free to go to London. What begins as a simple agreement turns into a complicated mess, when Tara’s heart gets involved. Tara knows what most people think of her, but Breccan makes her see the better side of others, and starts to open her eyes to desire and the power of true love…

I was hesitant in reading The Bride Says Maybe, after reading the first book ,and I found that Tara was my least favorite character. However after taking a chance, I learned to really love this one, and did I just fly through it like nothing. I almost thought it was a novella, it had seemed so short, but I must have read through it quicker than I realized. The story even though it is set in the Regency Era, it does have a highlander theme to it. Breccan and his family, have a castle of sorts, race horses, and carry on the traditions of the Scots. Many know how much I adore Highlanders, and Breccan was good enough to gobble up, I really loved his character. He has such a tough exterior, that most run away, but inside he is a lamb looking for someone to love him. He was sweet and charming, yet dangerously sexy. I really enjoyed seeing the variations of his character. He definitely had the alpha domineering side down pat, but you see a more in depth character of Breccan, one that endears the reader from the first chapter….I was cheering him on the whole way through!! Tara, wasn’t as bad of a character as I envisioned. I did eventually grow to somewhat like her. It did take a while, but you start to see a softer side to her, that you never see in the first book of the series. She definitely has her own issues of course, but in this story the author did a great job in making Tara seem so human and real. She turned out to be a very likable character by the end. The story line was rich and packed with passion and a delicious courtship. The heat level is not too heavy, but I enjoyed have more emphasis on the “falling in love” aspect of the relationship. It definitely made for a quality read!!

Overall a delectable romance that is going to win your heart, from the sexy highlander, sweet animals, and a love story that is full of wit and charm!!  ENCHANTING!!

Synopsis
Lady Aileen never thought she’d be in this position—falling in love with her sister’s betrothed! Of course, her sister did run away rather than marry him, and he doesn’t seem to be all that interested in her sister either, but even so, such a match is impossible…isn’t it?

Aileen is certain she must turn away from the man she loves in order to protect her sister’s reputation. However, he’s not one to give up without a fight, and now that he’s met a woman he wants to marry, nothing on earth could convince him to let Aileen go.

My Review

Lady Aileen has suffered from being married, to a man who was conceited and selfish and a brute. She has no wish to even come close to that type of suffering ever again. Now that her sister is engaged, she is happy for Tara even though Tara can be selfish and full of herself. Then suddenly her sister comes back home saying she has decided not to marry after all. Then her betrothed comes after her, and somehow Tara decides to commit herself back to her fiancee. Aileen knows that Tara is almost acting like a child, but loves her and is willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy. But what surprises her most is the attraction that builds between Aileen and Blake. Blake has worked his whole life building respect from others and refuses to lose everything to a fleeing fiancee, and if her actions are known could ruin him. So he goes after her, even though she is a beauty and would look good on his arm, he doesn’t feel anything for her. But when he meets Aileen, for the first time in his life, he sees a woman he could admire and even love. Even though there is a barrier between Blake and Aileen, sometimes love does conquer but only if the two hearts involved are willing to fight for it with everything they have…

The Bride Says No is the first in Maxwell’s latest series the “Brides of Wishmore”. I was given this ARC in return of a honest review. This is your typical forbidden lovers type of story. The hero is locked into a marriage agreement, one that could cause scandal and ruin if he steps away from it. The heroine is forced to fall in love with a man that will be her sisters husband soon. I have always been a big fan of this author, and I enjoyed the unique style of the plot and the way the story pans out in the end.  This is quite a romantic setting. It is set in the countryside of Scotland, in the Regency era. I have read many Scottish romances, and this seemed on the border of a very lightly tinted Scottish romance. There was only a bit of the Scottish Brogue–that makes my body tingle. 🙂 So this seemed more on the regency genre. I did enjoy the first meeting between Blake and Aileen, boy the room sparked I thought a explosion would occur with the heated exchange that begins. Definitely brings a smile to your face when a heroine isn’t humble and meek, but is a fighter. Aileen’s past divorced marriage, has forced her to look at things in a different light and I would put her in the “Bluestocking” category of heroines. She was a delight though. Blake has a commanding presence, arrogant in his own way, and sexy as sin. *sigh* loved every part of his characters. Now another key player is Tara, I had some serious issues with this gal. She seemed to have this superior attitude toward her sister I disliked and it was very tasteless, I kept thinking she needed a good kick in the rear or be tossed in the lake or something. Even though at the end she somewhat proves herself, it took over 300 pages to do it. However despite my frustrations with that character, I immensely enjoyed the chemistry between Blake and Aileen. At times it was sweet and tender, but then at other times it was hungry and passionate.  One of my favorite aspects of this authors writing is how she blends those two aspects into her stories so perfectly. It is never over done. I always end with a satisfied sigh, and this book was no different.

Overall this story seemed to be packed full of everything that makes a winner of a romance. Beautiful setting, magnificent characters, vivid detail, sweet romance, and a HEA!!! You can’t get any better than this! LOVED IT!!

Synopsis
New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell returns with her most unforgettable novel about the Chattan family yet…

They call her the Unattainable. Lady Margaret Chattan spurned every suitor for her hand, vowing never to marry. The only way to break the curse plaguing her family for two centuries is this ultimate sacrifice. But now her brothers’ lives are in danger. Determined to save them, she risks her very soul by traveling into the heart of the highlands to battle a force that has transcended time.

Heath Macnachtan is not superstitious. Laird of the most independent, nonconforming, madly infuriating clan ever to grace Scotland, he believes he has his hands full. And then, a woman lauded as one of the most beautiful in England, arrives on his doorstep with wild accusations and a mystical quest . . . one that just might help him discover who murdered his own brother.

But the real danger for Heath and Margaret is not a supernatural foe, but a very real love that could destroy them both.

My Review
Summary
Margaret is on a most important mission…one that could mean life or death for both of her brothers. The Chattan Curse has been in their family for generations…whenever a male falls in love, he will die soon thereafter. With both of her brothers almost paralized, and close to death, she knows she must succeed on her mission, because they have never been so close to breaking it. With ‘Fenella’s ‘ book in her possession, she knows she has a real chance. Then her carriage crashes from a powerful wind, and she is rescued by Heath Macnachtan, who is a descendent of the one witch who cursed her family all those years ago. Heath doesn’t believe in any curse, or witches, and cats that just appear out of no where. When he rescues Margaret, he senses something odd about her. Heath has many debts, and is barely staying afloat as it is. With the recent death of his brother, he is now Laird, and must take responsibility for his sisters and all those that are under his care. Even though his sisters are trying to push him into marrying Margaret, he knows the last thing he needs is marrying someone who is only here to break some curse he doesn’t even believe in. However when he starts to lose his heart to her, he starts to realize that there are some things that are very real, and it will take a huge leap of faith to save the only woman that he loves more than the air he breathes…

The Hero (Heath Macnachtan)
Heath, was quite content with having his brother be the Laird. He decided on a life on the sea, and was quite happy that way. But when he hears that his brother has been murdered, he knows he has no choice but to assume his rightful place as heir and Laird. He never realized how daunting that task would be. Having the responisbility to handle the growing amount of the debts that have built up over the years, and with one problem or another with his people, and the worry of making sure his sisters have proper dowries…the last thing he needs is a lone woman trying to break some mysterious curse that she thinks he is the key to. Absurd right? Heath goes about to prove to her what real life is like….and before he knows it…all he wants to do is protect her with all he has…no matter the cost to himself.

The Heroine (Margaret Chattan)
Margaret, even though she comes from a family with a fortune, and has never had to worry about financial difficulties, it wears heavily on her mind that she will lose both of her brothers…both of whom she loves dearly. So when she is able to find a key to breaking it, she travels up north, to the one man that could be the key to everything. Only she never thought all of her party would be killed except for a servant, who believes in the curse just as much as she does. When Heath rescues her, at first she thinks he is vile and she must do everything in her power to save her brothers’ lives. She just doesn’t realize what a vital role he would play, which would include being her future, the one person that she could fall in love with easily enough, if the guard around her heart weakens.

My Thoughts
I was given the opportunity by Edelweiss, Avon, and Harpercollins to read this ARC. I have just adored this series so far. Cathy Maxwell never disappoints…that is all that I have to say. Every time I read her, I just think to myself…she is one of the main reasons I love Historical Romance so much. She makes history come alive, along with the characters she portrays in her stories. Her writing is so addicting, that you can’t help but feel yourself becoming enthralled in the story…so much so you can’t put it down for one minute. For those of you, who have never read from this author or this series…you are missing out on a thrilling ride that will take you back through time, where magic is real, and love surpasses time and space. We start in the story with Margaret and Heath meeting, where he rescues her from a carriage accident on her way up to see Heath. Little does he know, that she would change his life forever. At the beginning, there is sparks flying here, there and everywhere….I felt like I was watching fireworks. They could be explosive together. But as we progress in the story futher, we see a gentle love start to build between them. Heath doesn’t believe in any curse or witches or spells, but he softens toward Margaret…so much so that you just melt when seeing them together. The bed scenes were so “Sigh” lovely, and passionate, yet gentle in its simplicity. It made me want to trade places at times. I loved the paranormal theme we have going…its not a huge aspect, we see much more focus on the love story than anything else (which is always a plus in my book) however I did like seeing the focus on the curse.  As it got closer to the end, I was hoping it wouldn’t be a cliff hanger or anything. Was I disappointed, shocked, or displeased in any way? NEVER!!! I was so happy I got a tear in my eye..I almost couldn’t read for a minute. I loved the power of the love story that just climaxes in such a perfect way….that it leaves one grinning like a fool at the end. It did have some unexpected twists and turns that I never saw coming….and I was delighted to see how it turned out. It was the perfect end to a exciting trilogy that has kept me on the edge of my seat so far. If you are looking for a astounding romance that will delight you and make you believe that LOVE does conquer all….this is a MUST READ!!! A Classic tale of love, magic, danger, and passion that will curl your toes!!

The Hero (Neal, Lord Lyon)
Neal, along with his brother and sister, had a miserable childhood and had to cling to each other, Their father although he lived a much longer life than any of his ancestors, lived a bleak and cold life, marrying someone he didn’t care for at all, a woman that was cold and distant to her children. Even though his brother and sister are much against Thea because they know how dangerous it is for Neal to give in to these feelings that has developed for her, he knows he must make a decision that could cost him his life.

The Heroine (Thea Martin)

However when she see’s Neal again, she knows her life will never be the same….

My Thoughts
Lyon’s Bride is the first installment in Cathy Maxwell most recent series: The Chattan Curse.  Lyon’s Bride, we see the start of this amazingly fun and exciting story, about three siblings, and in Lyon’s Bride Maxwell starts with Neal, who would make any woman sucuumb to his charms. He is sexy, intelligent, and willing to fight for those he loves, who could resist? Then we have the heroine Thea, who doesn’t believe in the unseen like some old curse, she just believes its superstition in the beginning, and it was amusing to watch Neal convince her otherwise. I also loved the interaction between Neal and Thea’s two sons, it was tearjerking at times. The whole story overall was very emotionally provoking, it had elements through the whole story, that would bring a tear to one’s eye, and then a sparkle of laughter in another moment. It definitely was full of passioin, witty humor, exciting plot that keeps the reader entertained to say the least. Overall a very well written story that engages the reader at every turn!!!! Loved Every Moment!!!

 Synopsis
The distressed traveler Charlotte Cameron encounters on a rainy Scottish night is absolutely the worst man she could have invited into her carriage! It is Phillip Maddox, the reprehensible Duke of Colster, who brought the full weight of the ton’s fury down upon her — simply because Charlotte encouraged her sister not to wed the powerful peer. And now the seductive devil responsible for her social ruin is sitting close enough to kiss…

Phillip’s distaste for the meddlesome beauty matches Charlotte’s — though, under alternate circumstances, he might have enjoyed sampling the sensuous charms of the tempting young chit.

There is grave danger, however, on the journey they now must reluctantly share — and a nemesis who means them both mortal harm. But can a passion that inconveniently ignites in the face of disaster erase a painful past…and lead two sworn enemies to a most unanticipated destination: the bedchamber?

MY REVIEW

But then a spark of desire flares up between them through a sensual embrace, and all his bitter feelings go flying through the roof at this one kiss from Charlotte and he knows that she will be his destiny.
The Hero (Phillip Maddox)
Phillip, Duke of Colster, has always done what was expected of him and followed the rules as expected of a Duke of the realm. However when he learns that he has a twin brother, he starts to head up to Scotland to find him and the truth of why his identity was withheld from him all of these years, what he didn’t expect was to end up in the same carriage as the one sister of the Camerons that made him a embarrasment among the Ton.  However the moment he kissed her, he knew things would change between them from disaster to pure bliss.
The Heroine (Charlotte Cameron)
After living in the colonies, and having to suffer through indian raids, one having killed her family apart from her two sisters, they decided to make a new life for themselves in England. Now she is forced to marry a man because of respectability and for the sake of her younger sister. But when the Duke of Colster ends up in her carriage, she knows that he is temptation itself, despite how much she hates what has happened because of him, she can’t deny the passion he brings out in her.
My Thoughts
In The Bed Of A Duke is the second installment of the Cameron Sisters by Cathy Maxwell. I have read this series before but its been a couple of years, so I thought I would re read them again, but I have always loved In The Bed Of A Duke, I loved how the story flows from two people hating one another, then turning into them falling in love. There is also a mystery and dangerous side to the story that will keep the reader on their toes, and fully engaged throughout the whole of the story. There was also such a emotional side to the story as well, that will pull at your heartstrings. In The Bed Of A Duke is a delicious read!!!!
My Favorite Quote
Colster pounded on the roof. “Driver, stop this coach immediately!” But his order must have gotten lost in the sound of the wind and rain, for no one responded.
All the anger she’d been carrying inside, the indignation, fear, and humiliation, rose to the surface. He didn’t want to be in the same coach with her?
She didn’t want to ride with him!
“You could jump,” she suggested

However when he returned she betrayed him and has left him in a situation that has him most angry and with a feeling of helplessness, and knows that the only one to help him is his wife whom he hasn’t seen since they were married. But as time goes on, Gillian wonders if she can give up the man that has stolen her heart once more.
My Thoughts
The Earl Claims His Wife by Cathy Maxwell is a wonderfully written love story, that stir up emotions in any reader. This is the second installment of the Scandals and Seduction series. As with most of Cathy Maxwwell’s novels, I found this to be a intriguing and romantic read, that had me cheering for both of the main characters. We have the hero, who is fighting for the life of a innocent and the heroine, who yearns for love and children. So when she agree’s to the one month agreement, she never realized that her heart would once more be threatened by Brian, knowing that she can’t resist his charms or his heart. The Earl Claims His Wife was a wonderful romance, a well written story, with endearing characters.
