There’s nothing like a hot kiss on a cold day…
Librarian Maureen O’Connell might have predicted she’d find herself crying into the ice cream case at the supermarket after a bad breakup—but she definitely never imagined that a guy hot enough to melt the Rocky Road would flirt with her right there in the freezer aisle. Only Gavin Fraser isn’t a fantasy, he’s a mouth-watering new flavor…
When a freak snowstorm strands Maureen at Gavin’s after just one date, it’s a perfect excuse for something a lot steamier than hot chocolate in front of the fire. It’s definitely lust. Can it also be love?
A secret from his past holds the key to their future…
A Marriage Beyond Hope
Lady Sophia has long been estranged from her husband, Lord Vane Barwick, the Marquess of Claxton, whose rumored list of amorous conquests includes almost every beautiful woman of the ton. Yet a shocking encounter with him in a crowded ballroom—and a single touch—are all it takes to reawaken her furious passion for him. But how can she trust the man who crushed her dreams and took away the one thing she wanted most?
A Love Beyond Reason
Lord Claxton has never forgiven himself for the youthful mistake that ruined his marriage to Lady Sophia. Now, after nearly a year abroad, the reformed rogue vows to win back the only woman he’s ever truly loved. He’ll do whatever it takes to prove he can be the honorable husband she deserves—and the passionate lover she desires. As the snowdrifts deepen outside their ancestral home, can they rekindle the flame that burned so bright and find a new path to forever?
So I didn’t realize until I started reading this one, that is was a Christmas themed story. The blurb does really give that away in any way, so you don’t expect it, but as I was reading, I found that the Christmas theme really added a flair to the story. This story is about Lord Claxton and Sophia, who fell in love and got married. But things went downhill very quickly, mostly judgements and miscommunication and making presumptions. Which can happen in any relationship especially in a romantic relationship. Then the book starts off after they have been estranged for almost a year. At this point the author does a bit of background information on the couple., so that you aren’t at a total loss. Then they end up stuck at a manor in the country while they get snowed in, and they are forced to resolve differences. Claxton wants to reconcile with Sophia, he loves her and is willing to do anything to get her to soften toward him. Sophia is a bit stubborn like a mule, and doesn’t believe there is any hope for them. All she wants is a child and then be separated for the rest of their lives. We see the ways that Claxton goes about to convince Sophia to listen to reason.
What I really enjoyed about this story, was seeing Claxton and Sophia interact with each other. They tend to get very intense with each other, and boy do they tend to say hurtful things, no wonder they are estranged…you see why they have been separated for a time. But you also see the sincere feelings that they have for each other. I found that I liked the hero way more than the heroine in this story. I found Sophia to be a bit full of herself at times, as the story progresses you see how much she has gone through, but so has Claxton, they both have been hurt, but she does have some good qualities, but I didn’t really like her all that much through the story. She rubbed off me the wrong way, which was a little sad since she seemed to have great potential in the beginning. Claxton, now he was so great, I adored his character. He is a fighter especially when it comes to keeping his marriage together, I loved how he refused to give up on it, no matter how Sophia could be about it.
All in all though, this was a charming and romantic story that drew my attention. The writing is engaging and pulls the reader, the story line is simple yet complex at times, and the plot gives you some sexy twists and turns…a tender love story with a holiday twist.
Lady Alanna McNabb is bound by duty to her family, who insist she must marry a gentleman of wealth and title. When she meets the man of her dreams, she knows it’s much too late, but her heart is no longer hers.
Laird Iain MacGillivray is on his way to propose to another woman when he discovers Alanna half-frozen in the snow and barely alive. She isn’t his to love, yet she’s everything he’s ever wanted.
As Christmas comes closer, the snow thickens, and the magic grows stronger. Alanna and Iain must choose between desire and duty, love and obligation.
But it’s Christmas in the Highlands, and there are bound to be a few surprises.
I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Avon and Edelweiss for the opportunity.
Once Upon A Highland Christmas is another fabulous read by this author. I have just loved what Cornwall has done with this highlander series, and how each book is based on a season…this story, obviously is based on a Christmas themed setting. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one, since it is a bit of a forbidden romance theme but it was fantastic in every way and I have little complaints here.
The story begins with Alanna, is dedicated and loyal, and gave her word to marry a man that is twice her age but she feels duty bound to do so. The eve before her fiance’s arrival she goes to take a walk, and ends up lost, and a storm comes upon her, and she is found and rescued by Laird Iain MacGillvray. Iain is out hunting when he discovers Alanna, injured and freezing in the snow and he takes her to a cottage to help heal her injuries. Iain has just come into a English title, and knows that he will be expected to marry a English lass to help cement his arrival in society, even though its the last thing he would like to do. And the woman he feels bound to marry, is the opposite of Alanna in every way. With the storm, Iain takes her to his home, and the attraction that they have for each other is fiery passionate and wild, but both of them know it can never last because they other responsibilities. Will Iain and Alannna choose duty and obligation or a treasured love…
This story was very emotional for me, and I had a difficult time with this one, just because your heart just breaks to see these two find a way to be together. If you look back at the time period especially, honor and duty was everything. And this author does a great way of implementing that concept into the story. We have two people that fall in love, but their destiny may differ from their hearts desires. We have a bit of a conflict and villain–the Lady Penelope. Oh how I just wanted to toss her in a Scottish loch-hehe- I know that is mean, but she was quite the character, but she offers quite a bit of rivalry to the story. I did adore some of the other side characters, such as Iain’s sister and Penelope’s sister, and of course we do see Alanna’s older brother and well it is great seeing Alec and Caroline play a part in the story.
The characters were fun and adventurous and full of depth and true character that you can’t help but adore from the beginning. Iain is the type of hero I just love. He is more reserved and quiet, but he is strong and loyal and quite a lovely kisser…I wish I could melt in his arms. Alanna is a wonderful heroine, she also is full of strength and dedication, but passionate and just loves everyone. She has such a sweet personality, although I do kinda wish she had a bit more backbone at times, but overall she was quite a character, and she was really endearing and likable.
Overall a heart winning romance, a love story that will bring a tear to your eye, packed with plenty of strife, conflict, and a poignant love to win you over from the get go. I found myself flipping through this story as fast as I could get through those pages…definitely a HEART STOPPER!!!
Miss Lydia Charingford is always cheerful, and never more so than at Christmas time. But no matter how hard she smiles, she can’t forget the youthful mistake that could have ruined her reputation. Even though the worst of her indiscretion was kept secret, one other person knows the truth of those dark days: the sarcastic Doctor Jonas Grantham. She wants nothing to do with him…or the butterflies that take flight in her stomach every time he looks her way.
Jonas Grantham has a secret, too: He’s been in love with Lydia for more than a year. This winter, he’s determined to conquer her dislike and win her for his own. It all starts with a wager and a kiss…
This story is a short novella, about 100 pages, so it was easy to breeze right through, and with Milan at the helm of this story, you have quite a ride of romance and tension and yummy treats. Jonas Grantham met Lydia when she was a teenager, and having been a student of medicine at the time, couldn’t help her when some mistakes came to light, but now he loves her. He loves Lydia, and she hates him, but he is bound to win her over and with the magic of the season, he will use any weapon at his disposal. Lydia has a secret that if found out could destroy her, and only two people know: her father and Jonas, but will Lydia and Jonas be able to overcome fears and hurts and find true love?
What I enjoyed about this story was the chemistry between Jonas and Lydia. At first, they tend to argue and bicker like little children, but when you really press on further into the story, we see a romance blossom between the two, and I enjoyed the light hearted tone of the story. It wasn’t very serious and set off a feeling of sweet fun. It a easy read, and can be read as a stand alone, I do love stories like this one. You have two people that need each other, and Jonas’s life hasn’t been easy either, but he is wonderful with Lydia, and really brings her real nature out and they have quite a connection. I want to tip my hat to Milan for writing a novella that is packed with strong characters, a story with depth and a love story to enchant. A perfect read for the season…get ready for a witty and fun romance.
Even a rogue can believe in miracles…
Raoul Charlebois is nothing if not notorious. He’s abandoned his wild life to search out answers to his dark past, but that doesn’t stop his reputation as a rake from following him wherever he goes. In this case, it follows him to the door of a gamekeeper’s cottage, where beautiful, optimistic, innocent Sarah Jefferson resides. In all his exploits, he’s never met a woman like her…and that makes her all the more tempting…
At first, Sarah will have no part in whatever the devastatingly handsome visitor wants at the estate…until she realizes what he wants is her. For as the snow falls down around them, she finds that the intoxicating scent of evergreen boughs can prove incredibly seductive. And maybe there is some glimmer of good in Raoul hiding deep within. After all, Christmas has a way of bringing lost souls together…
Seduce Me By Christmas is a story by Alexandra Ivy who uses a pseudonym, for her historical works. For quite a while I only thought Ivy had books leaning toward the paranormal genre, but when I learned she had done some historical romances…I just couldn’t resist, and this book just caught my eye as I was browsing and couldn’t help but to get it, a perfect read to get me in the mood for the holidays. This story wasn’t what I expected it to be, it was quite a splendid experience and I can tell you I definitely need to read this author more.
The story begins with a rake and scoundrel, Raoul, who is known as a bastard son of a lord of the Ton. He has made a success in being on the stage, but needs a change, and desires something more from his life. So he goes back to his roots, and meets a woman that attracts his interest. A woman that wants nothing to do with him, normally Raoul is the one that picks his women out, but he isn’t used to being rejected or challenged. Sarah, is a painter and considers herself a spinster, and has taken in two orphaned boys. She has heard the numerous rumors concerning Raoul and knows that he isn’t to be trusted. But when he sets out to seduce her she knows that she is in danger, of falling in love with the scoundrel, even though she knows he will only end up breaking her heart.
This story was packed with enough passion and entertainment to keep me satisfied for quite some time. I just loved everything about this book, in fact I couldn’t put this one down once I really got into it. The characters were quite developed and really added some depth to the story. Raoul is the type of hero you just ache to read about. He is alpha male, loves a challenge and loves his women and sex, he is a animal in bed, but his character goes deeper than that. He is protective, intelligent, connects well with children, and has a hidden caring nature. What more do you need right? Sara is quite a unique heroine, there were many times I honestly didn’t know what to think of her. I liked her but then I didn’t know if I liked her. She is very willful and independent and doesn’t let anyone let her guard down, and can be quite stubborn. I liked how she stands up for herself no matter what, but I do felt that she was a bit too stubborn, especially when it comes to Raoul. I know that she is just protecting herself, but Raoul really puts himself out there, and it takes quite some time before she lets him in.
Once they were together, they were just phenomenal. They definitely connect on the physical level, and boy do they have some sexy chemistry,….I felt the need to turn on the A/C in winter time….this story does know how to heat up the room. Even though on the surface the story seems like a simple enough one, it was very dynamic, and had unexpected turns in the plot I didn’t expect to find, and what a mystery…I kept guessing the end result…and I was off the mark. The author sure knows how to write a story to keep you guessing and still surprise you in many different ways. The story also has a charming note to it with Christmas and I loved seeing that theme being mixed in well with the other aspects that tended to flow together quite well in this story.
Overall a sensational romance that won my heart over, heartwarming characters, a thrilling mystery, and a passionate and poignant love story! ASTOUNDING!!
The blue eyes darkened as he lowered his head to brush his lips over her temple. “Butter” His lips moved to tease at her cheek. “Flour” He covered her trembling mouth with a tender kiss. “And Ginger.” Slowly he pulled back, his slumberous gaze sweeping over her flushed features. “You taste of Christmas.”
Pleasure as thick and delicious as warm honey slid through her body at his touch. His slender, clever fingers trailed down her jaw, his touch sending jolts of dazzling sensations straight to the pit of her stomach.
Oh…he was wicked.
Wondrously, magnificently wicked.

Tis The Season To Be Sinful, is a holiday novel by Adrienne Basso. Now I am really coming to adore this author, and I still can’t believe that I haven’t read more of her until now. Every time I read her, it reminds me of a time when I first fell in love with romance, and her writing is so riveting and provocative that it instantly draws you into the story.
In Tis The Season To Be Sinful, we find a story of two people who are destined to love each other, but find stumbling blocks along the way. This story was such a delight to read and there was so much that I found myself enjoying about this story….that I had to give it my highest rating, because I flew through this story like no other, and could barely contain my excitement when it was over. This story was rich was the Christmas theme from the yule log, picking and kissing under the mistletoe, hunting down holly to hang, picking out a tree, and yummy goodies, and the warm Christmas spirit. There is a little bit in here for everyone, and one of my favorite aspects of the story was seeing it all come together. It definitely a story I would recommend, especially if you are looking for a sensual and fun Christmas themed romance….a story to remember. This pair was quite a hoot, and I enjoyed seeing them work through things, and it wasn’t easy, but I loved the setting, and the way the plot developed…the characters were charming and all of them go straight to the heart, they are pure deliciousness, and the heat in this book is not too heavy but not too light either…I felt like it was just perfect. There is quite a bit of conflict before they reach their HEA, but it really gave the story volume and some unique elements that made this romance fully satisfying! Overall a winning romance to win over your heart, and give you that warm fuzzy feeling you look for in every romance….purely sensual to the core!!!
