My Thoughts
When Marrying A Scoundrel is the second installment in the Victorian Soap Opera series…I just love Kathryn Smith..at least the books that I have read so far. I just fell in love with this story and the characters hard and fast. I just loved loved loved Sadie, she was fresh and spirited, yet hid vulnerabilities when it came to love and especially to Jack. Through the whole story we see these two fall in love all over again despite protests to the contrary, and we also see a mystery unravel. So it was fun and refreshing romance and I just love Kathryn Smith’s style of writing. Its like a breath of fresh air….and I just truly loved When Marrying A Scoundrel!!  It was EXCELLENT!!!

Synopsis:
Every man has his weakness. And the Ryland brothers are no different.

But Wynthrope Ryland has always believed himself an exception to that rule, an exception to every rule. It is the only way he can justify his former life — a life of crime. Long ago he took advantage of his astounding ability to remain undetected in the most profitable of ways … and since then, he has been motivated only by the hope of somehow turning his wrongs to rights.

Until he meets Moira. Moira Tyndale, elegant, proud, even haughty, a beautiful viscountess in possession of a priceless crown of diamonds. She is to be the victim of his final theft, the one that will set the Ryland brothers free forever from the binds Wyn unknowingly created so long ago. And yet with only the slightest glance, Moira has him more enchanted than he ever believed possible. In her bedchamber — the very place where the theft must take place — he discovers passion heretofore unknown.

She is his weakness. But will she be his undoing?

There are dangerous seductions waiting …

My Review:
Moira Tyndale, grew up in a home where her actions were always judged and criticized. So she married a man out of convenience to get away from her family, especially her mother. In her marriage, they never consummated, but then her husband died and she became a widow. A couple years later when her Minnie, is in town for the season, Moira is her chaperone. At a ball one evening, she meets Wynthrope Ryland who asks her sister to dance, and Moira knowing how much older he is from Minnie, she that he can’t. However Moira is shocked when he asks her to dance. Moira who is beautiful, sweet, has always had a low opinion of herself due to her families criticism of her. So she tells him “no” thinking that he just wanted to use her to get to her sister. But from the moment that Wynthrope enters Moira life, she knows that she will never be the same, for there is something too different about him. Wynthrope at first was planning on asking Minnie to dance, but upon meeting her sister Moira he is utterly mesmerized by her. He yearns to get to know her better, and when she returns his affections, thus starts their courtship. For a time Wynthrope is thinking that everything is going well, and he has finally found someone to spend his life with. But then his past comes back to haunt his present. His former boss threatens him that will harm his brothers and will harm Moira, if he doesn’t steal a tiara that belongs to no other than his precious Moira. He has no idea, what to do, since he doesn’t know how to steal something and not have Moira find out, and he is fearing losing her, since she is his salvation and his love.

I really enjoyed reading In The Night, it had a mysterious aurora about it, that just compelled me to read it. I loved how throughout this book, you see both the characters grow and change into something so better than before due to them falling in love. Moira has very low self esteem, and thinks that she isn’t beautiful or desirable in any way. Once she meets Wynthrope that starts to change. We see her change into a beautiful beautiful from the inside out. Wynthrope is one of those that doesn’t think he will ever find a woman that could ever love him for who he is. He was a thief in his past, although at first he was thinking he was working as a spy for the British Government. However, he doesn’t know how to prevent his family and the one that he loves from getting hurt if he doesn’t hurt Moira in the process by stealing her tiara. Kathryn Smith takes the reader on a journey of learning to love and trust, and how loving someone can give you the strength to overcome any challenge no matter how great or small. It was truly a satisfying and invigorating read that kept me turning the pages, and I couldn’t put it down.

Synopsis:
No love blazes hotter
than the one that burns
For the First Time

Devlin Ryland has returned to London in triumph, acclaimed throughout the city for his courage at Waterloo and selfless rescue of a fellow soldier. But Devlin wants no part of his newfound glory — until he escapes to the country estate of a friend and encounters the one woman for whom he would gladly play the hero: the statuesque beauty Lady Blythe Christian. Unfortunately, the lady who so stirs his passions wants nothing at all to do with England’s heralded champion.

The man Devlin saved was Blythe’s betrothed…who then heartlessly married another. Now the pain only intensifies when Devlin is near — though, truth be told, she is not unmoved by the strength of his character and his considerable charms. But with heartbreak so fresh in her memory, how can noble Devlin convince Blythe to trust again…because only then can he show her what it is to be loved for the first time.

My Review:
Devlin Ryland has recently returned from war and he is claimed to be a war hero from his action at Waterloo. However Devlin is tormented by what he had to do being a military man, and having spent ten years in the Military. He then heads to the countryside estate of his friend, Miles and Carney. Where he comes to face to face with Mile’s younger sister, Lady Blythe Christian. Devlin is immediately drawn to the beautiful Blythe, who sets his paces racing. Lady Blythe  however doesn’t feel the same. Devlin saved her ex fiancee and which then led to Blythe being jilted, heartbroken, and scandalized. Blythe doesn’t want to feel anything for this handsome war hero Devlin, however her heart and body has different ideas than her logic dictates. At the same time, Blythe is also faced with her ex fiancee whom she at one time had loved and she had thought he loved her. But he fell in love with his wife, and so Blythe against her better judgment becoming friends with his wife Tessa. Will wonders ever cease? Well will these two destined lovers find a happiness that they both deserve?

I truly loved this one, this is the second one in the Ryland Brother series that I have read. I really was endeared by Devlin and Blythe’s story. Devlin is a very tormented man that needs more than anything a woman that loves him. He has nightmares and his closest companion that keeps him safe is his rifle. This experience he starts having with Blythe is utterly new to him, he finds himself falling for her without even fully realizing it. Blythe has been hurt in the past, and endeavors to guard her heart to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Blythe finds her hearts barriers down with each moment that she spends with Devlins. As their relationship grows so does their sensual desire for one another. It becomes a whirlwind of desire, love and learning to trust one’s heart. I have to say I have very few complaints with this one, It was a romantic read, that had my head spinning, the characters were well portrayed as well as the surroundings of the book. It really drew me in, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen between Blythe and Devlin and it was a great adventure to see their relationship progress into something real.
