Emma Ruiz knows her father is innocent. But that doesn’t help her convince the law—not even smoking hot U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe. When McCabe bangs on her door demanding information about how her cancer-stricken father escaped from federal prison, she’ll have to distract him somehow—it may as well be with a stolen kiss.
Landon gets why Emma isn’t saying all she knows. What he doesn’t understand is why he’s putting his reputation, his case, and his badge on the line for a gorgeous person of interest. Much as he’d love to, he can’t let Emma play him. The stakes are higher than either of them can guess. The only way to survive is to trust their instincts. But their instincts want more than one kiss…
One Kiss More is the second book in the U.S. Marshalls series that Mandy Baxter has written for us. I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to try this one out. I only read it in a few hours, so it’s the type of story that you can breeze your way through with little trouble. What I really admired about this story was how intense it was. Before I started reading it, I honestly hadn’t read the blurb at all, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect…and this story completely blew me away. Mandy Baxter is the type of author that stimulates the reader from page one. The basic summary is that a feisty heroine wants to save her father, and will do anything even keep secrets from the sexy U.S. Marshall, that she has had a crush on for years. But she needs to keep his investigation at bay, but soon they are forced to pose as lovers, and the sexual tension rises tenfold. These two definitely have some great chemistry going on, and you definitely sense that. But you also sense more to their relationship than just hot sex….although that is great. But you see them building a trust and closeness. There is quite a level of danger and intensity to the story, I will warn you, you might want to do some good cardio before reading…that way your heart is strong enough for the level of suspense and danger that takes the story up a few notches. Overall I found this story to be fun and full of unique surprises that I found simply delightful. Keeping an eye out for this author now.
Tall, dark, and lethal…
Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome–pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.
With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.
Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge..
Plot and Story Line
So, Becca, did you enjoy the sloppy joes Nick made for you?”
“Yeah,” she said, leaning against the counter. “They were great.”She didn’t seem to hear the innuendo dripping from the guy’s words.
“Jeremy,” he said, lacing the syllables with a warning his brother sure as hell would recognize.
Grinning, Jeremy started in. “Wow, that was really nice of Nick to–”
Rixey swiped the pan out from under Jeremy’s nose and crossed to the trash can. His foot depressed the pedal and the metal lid flipped up.
“Hey!” Jeremy whirled, following Nick’s quick movements.
Nick tilted the skillet at a forty five degree angle and paused, read to scoop the leftovers into the trash. “You were saying?”
Jeremy gasped, and threw his hands out. “What the hell are you doing, man? You can’t…that’s sloppy joe!” Mouth agape, eyes wide, his expression was almost comical.
Becca glanced between them, a confused smile on her face.
Nick winked at her, then arched a brow at Jeremy. Boy damn well knew what this was for.
Jer rolled his eyes. “All right, all right. Just.”–he gestured to the stove–“step away from the trash. Slowly.”
Settling the pan back on the burner, Nick glared, then finally let go of the handle. Jeremy pulled it close and shielded it with his body like it was his firstborn child.
