Geoffrey Wentworth, the Earl of Stratford, is a war hero focused on affairs of king and country rather than affairs of the heart. Nevertheless, his mother is playing matchmaker and has invited potential brides to visit the family estate. Geoffrey resigns himself to playing host to a gaggle of husband-hunters more interested in his title than in him—until he unexpectedly meets one notable and intriguing exception.

Miss Liliana Claremont has no interest in being an earl’s wife, least of all Wentworth’s—the son of the man she believes murdered her father. Liliana is determined to find evidence of the crime, but her behavior rouses the earl’s suspicions as well as her own undeniable attraction to a man she thought was her enemy. As Geoffrey and Liliana explore their growing passion for one another, the truth behind their fathers’ enmity threatens to destroy their newfound love…

My Review

Geoffrey, the Earl of Stratford, is a military man, and ever since the war ended, has been looking for a way to get a bill passed, that would allow those brave soldiers to find jobs and have a safe place to live other than the streets. When he learns that his mother has planned a country house party, under his name, to find him a bride…he is furious. He refuses to marry yet, there is so much he needs to do and the last thing he needs is a woman he could never love or trust. Liliana Claremont, despite the pretenses, is not looking for a husband. Her father was murdered, and she believes the answers to his death will be found at Stratford. When she meets Geoffrey, and they become friends, her heart begins to soften toward him, but will the truth behind their father’s death destroy the love they have or fortify it?

I was very impressed with Sweet Enemy, so much so that I couldn’t put this down and read it all this morning. Heather Snow is a new author for me, and I have really given her much thought until now. I have seen some rating and reviews here or there, but when I saw it available at my library, I jumped at the chance to try this author out, and I am so glad that I did. If her other books weren’t at my library, I would buy them, I loved this book that much. Heather Snow has risen to the top of my author list, especially when it comes to Regency Romance. Of late, I have become a bit bored with that genre, since it tends to be over done at times. But Snow wrote a story that utterly captivated me from the first page.
The story begins with Liliana searching for any clues to her father’s death. Liliana (and what a pretty name), is smart, she is a scientist and a healer, and like her parents, wants to make a difference in the world, to honor them and their memory. She never expects marriage out of her life, because she only wants true love and trust, and most men shy away from her brains. Geoffrey, is a war hero, suffering from a back injury, a man driven to help those that fought for their country and came back to be sent to the streets. We have a love story that begins with friendship, and working together, to a passionate love affair, where desire drives them, and love is at the center.
This story was so well done, and cheers for Heather Snow and her research. She cultivates this story with such wit and intelligence, with depth and she molds a love story that will endear you forever. I am sure I will remember this couple for quite a long time. I found the characters enchanting, and their love story was poignant, sensual and stimulating. A breathtaking new storyteller that is guaranteed to hold your heart!! A TRUE TREASURE OF A ROMANCE!!

Book #1 in a new series of historical romances… with a twist.

The Bluestocking
Lady Corinna Mowbray has three passions: excellent books, intelligent conversation, and disdaining the libertine Earl of Chance.

The Rake
Lord Ian Chance has three pleasures: beautiful women, fast horses, and tormenting high-and-mighty Corinna Mowbray.

Neighbors for years, they’ve been at each other’s throats since they can remember. But when a twist of fate forces them to trade lives, how long will it be before they discover they cannot live without each other?

My Review

My Lady, My Lord, is a new release from Katharine Ashe. Now I can’t believe I have had this book on my Nook for months and I am just now getting to it. But this author keeps winning me over, and I knew I had to try this one out. This story I think, is part of a series, but have no idea what it is called and what the series is about…yet. Or it could be a single title. I wouldn’t mind seeing this turned into a series though. This story was very unique, especially with it being a Regency romance. It is very lightheart and sexy fun, but it has a certain twist you don’t expect. Now this review is going to be shorter than normal, due to the fact that I don’t want to spoil anything for readers that have yet to read this and want to. What I will say was this was quite a ride…I loved the turns of the plot, and the sizzling chemistry between Corinna and Ian. Whew….their interactions alone can set ablaze a forest fire. They have some tension and not all of it sexual, although as you read you see that all their bickering and name calling, it boils down to their attraction for each other. No surprise right? Well I loved the way that this author formatted this story and I was being constantly surprised and I loved the way that Ashe weaves a sensual story that is breathtaking, passionate, and magical.

Throwback Thursday (65) Historical Romance Edition: Slightly Dangerous

Throwback Thursday is a new meme hosted by Buried Under Romance and Love Saves The World, and since I just love Historical Romance I decided to participate.

What Is Throwback Thursday? Traditionally, Throwback Thursday celebrates nostalgia, asking participants to post a personal photo or image from their past–usually from 5 to 10 years ago. There are a lot of book blogs that also do a book related Throwback Thursday.

Here Are The Rules: 1. It must be posted on a Thursday. 2. It must be a historical romance novel published before October 3, 2008

My Candidate For The Week
All of London is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Wulfric Bedwyn, the reclusive, cold-as-ice Duke of Bewcastle, at the most glittering social event of the season. Some whisper of a tragic love affair. Others say he is so aloof and passionless that not even the greatest beauty could capture his attention.

But on this dazzling afternoon, one woman did catch the duke’s eye—and she was the only female in the room who wasn’t even trying. Christine Derrick is intrigued by the handsome duke…all the more so when he invites her to become his mistress.

What red-blooded woman wouldn’t enjoy a tumble in the bedsheets with a consummate lover—with no strings and no questions asked. An infuriating lady with very definite views on men, morals, and marriage, Christine confounds Wulfric at every turn. Yet even as the lone wolf of the Bedwyn clan vows to seduce her any way he can, something strange and wonderful is happening. Now for a man who thought he’d never lose his heart, nothing less than love will do.

With her trademark wit, riveting storytelling, and sizzling sexual sparks, Mary Balogh once again brings together two polar opposites: an irresistible, high-and-mighty aristocrat and the impulsive, pleasure-loving woman who shows him what true passion is all about. A man and a woman so wrong for each other, it can result only in the perfect match.

Now, the closer Cormack gets to uncovering the villain who haunts the ton‘s ballrooms, the more he realizes that the lovely lady is in danger herself. Will he abandon his quest for revenge-or risk losing his one chance at love?

My Review

Lady Daphne, lost her father in an accident that she blames herself for. And has dedicated herself to her family and their happiness, and has decided to never marry no matter how much her mother wishes to change her mind. When she learns that her closest friend and maid, Kate, has gotten into some trouble, from a debt for her family, she decides to go about London, in the wrong part of it, and act the part of a servant to help pay off the debt. But she doesn’t expect to meet Lord Cormack Northmore, on her adventure, and after sharing some sizzling embraces, she knows that this will be the only night that she will be able to enjoy a night in his arms, never to see him again. But when Cormack recognizes her among the Ton, they engage in a battle of sorts, of passion and discovering secrets…and before they know it, they are uncovering a hidden desire that threatens to inflame them both…
I will say that this book just might be my favorite of the series. After reading all three books, and I did love the third book, but this installment, I just adored. I loved everything about this story, and it had the type of story line that really intrigues me…which can be difficult to do when it comes to regency romance. So many authors write in this sub-genre of historical romance, so it’s always a delight, to find one that really gets my interest from the beginning. Of course Lily Dalton, has the writing style that is very engaging on each page. So you can’t help but get fully into the story from the first few pages. But the way she develops the characterizations and the building up of the story line, really had me. You see how inventive this author is, and the way she puts some unique twists in the story. There is an underlying mystery in play as well, which kept me guessing from beginning to end.
The characters were just lovely, and I just loved both of them. Cormack, was a delight, and boy did he throw some curveballs into the story, but what a fun one he was. He definitely knows how to take Daphne in hand, and doesn’t let her get away with deceiving him. Daphne, was just a good one, and it can be hard to find in historical romance at times, but she is so passionate and stubborn and a bit willful, but I enjoyed that about her. She really seemed to brighten the story up and add some adventure into it too.
Never Entice An Earl is a well written romance, of engaging characters, sensual delights, a beautifully crafted plot, and a story to keep you fully satisfied…TERRIFIC!!

It would have been the wedding of the year — had the groom, Sir Nigel Boscastle, bothered to put in an appearance. To the shock of her distinguished guests, the respectable Lady Jane Welsham is left humiliated at the altar. Yet truth be told, although outwardly ruined she is elated to have escaped marriage to a man she does not love.

Enter Grayson Boscastle, the irresistible Marquess of Sedgecroft (and cousin to Nigel). Grayson’s duty is clear: salvage the young lady’s pride and reestablish the family’s good name, while repairing his own tarnished reputation as one of London’s most notorious scoundrels. Their whirlwind affair is the talk of the ton. Yet nothing is as it seems between the bewitching Lady Jane, who knows that her wedding was cleverly sabotaged, and her charming rogue, as they are drawn into an amusing game of seduction and secrets.

My Review

Lady Jane, has been stood up at the altar by her fiancée, and close friend. Everyone is heartbroken for

her, but Jane can’t wait for the opportunity to find true love. Jane has a secret that she hatched, and she is joyful at the current events, now she knows it will be up to her to make her own fate. But there is one obstacle that she didn’t plan on…Grayson Boscatsle. Gray is furious at his cousin, and knows that it is up to him to maintain the family honor, and seek reparations for the wrong done. But for some reason, Jane doesn’t seem all that heartbroken over what has happened. Gray just assumed she is putting a good front, and he insists that he escort her around town, and show others what he sees in her. But before long, he starts to fall in love with her, but the secret that Jane is hiding from him, will bring about a sensual game of seduction and secrets…but who will win and triumph?

Jillian Hunter has been around for quite some time, but for some reason this is the first time I have read a book of hers. She has been on my watch list for a while, and I just had to try her out when I noticed this series on the shelves of my local library. So I thought I would be “original” and try this series in order. Let’s see if I can complete this “mission impossible” since I seem to have the worst habit of reading a series out of order. Any who….I will say that I truly loved this story. Now it did take me a bit of time to get into the book, but I think I was just adjusting to the unique writing style of the author.
This book was a ball of laughs and giggles, and I loved this couple. They were so engaging, especially to this reader, and the interaction between them was contagious, I just almost wished I could just jump into the pages and join in their fun. Now the real fun…doesn’t happen until toward the end and wow did that surprise me. Normally, with a plot line like this one, you don’t expect it to turn out this way, but this author really twisted her way with this story; I loved her creativity with the series of events. The way she forms these characters, well it was just charming. I loved every one that played a part in the story. What I also loved was seeing the family of Gray…their comradery and teasing of each other, added a certain flair to the story and a bit of drama at times. But what exquisite drama it is! An lighthearted and playful story with a touch of sensuality and moving emotions…Deliciously SEXY!!

Play with fire, pay the price.

Leila’s years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn’t learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin…

Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both…

My Review

Leila, has had to learn to adjust to a new way of life, being a vampire, and being married to the most

infamous one of all time. Her life has changed from working the circus, and with their enemy still alive, both Leila and Vlad are determined to bring him to an end. But Leila is about to face a danger and an enemy that could destroy her. Now Leila will have to face a perilous journey that she may not be able to overcome. Vlad has an enemy that has been alive for centuries, and knows his strengths and weaknesses, but when Leila is put in danger and Vlad will have to do everything in his power he has gained from the centuries to save her and to conquer his enemy. Will Vlad’s love for Leila be their destruction or their salvation…

Bound By Flame is the third installment, of the Night Prince series. Now with each book, I keep thinking, if I love it more than cat and bones…because right now they are tied. I can’t believe I am saying that, since Cat and Bones are just a classic couple, and a favorite, however Vlad and Leila are an empowering couple, and their bond is just so strong and I have adored every moment seeing them come closer, and with each book, the danger increases. I waited a whole year for this story to come out, and it was worth the wait. I couldn’t put this one down once…it was a phenomenal read, and I would recommend it to anyone that loves a romance that will get that blood thumping.
Now there are certain things, I would like to keep under wraps in this review, so I don’t spoil it too much. But I would like to discuss how the relationship between Vlad and Leila grows. In this story, Vlad and Leila really get tested, I mean REALLY tested. And what happens shocks me and I wished I had some wine to get me a bit a fortification for this story. It tested my strength and I had the hardest time refraining from skipping ahead, I had to reign my self-control in, and control the urge. There was quite a few heart wrenching moments that tugged at my heartstrings. At the beginning of this story, Vlad and Leila have only been married for a short period, and have barely scratched the surface on the “honeymoon” stage, and with their enemy growing, you see how the danger tests their resolve, and most importantly tests their love.
The characters themselves were just as wonderful as ever, and I found them to be equally compelling, you also see quite a bit of growth especially in Leila’s case, but also in Vlad. When they get tested, you see how they grow and become stronger willed individuals and the steam level—WOWZERS!!! I think I got burned reading this one…watch out and you just might want to bring out a fire extinguisher to take out the flames.
Oh and as a side note, at the beginning of the series I thought it was only going to have three books, but for those that don’t know…there will be a fourth book…YAY!! So happy. I just can’t get enough of this series.
Overall a sexually charged paranormal romance that is packed with danger, suspense, a crazy villain, a possessive hero, and a heroine that will win over your heart!! A HEARTSTOPPER!!

Three intrepid princesses find themselves targets in a deadly plot against the crown – until their uncle devises a brilliant plan to keep them safe…

England, 1888.

Quiet and scholarly Princess Emilie has always avoided adventure, until she’s forced to disguise herself as a tutor in the household of the imposing Duke of Ashland, a former soldier disfigured in battle and abandoned by his wife. When chance draws her into a secret liaison with the duke, Emilie can’t resist the opportunity to learn what lies behind his forbidding mask, and find out what adventure really means…

The duke never imagines that his son’s tutor and his mysterious golden-haired beauty are one and the same. But when the true identity of his lover is laid bare, Moreland must face the demons in his past in order to safeguard both his lady – and his heart.

My Review

Princess Emilie, is the middle sister, and has always been the quiet and reserved one, and relished her books. But when their father is murdered, they are on the run for their lives. They make it to England, with the aid of their governess to reach their uncle’s home. Who hatches a plan to hide them in the countryside posing as men. Emilie, is to be a tutor for a young teenager, with an overbearing Duke as the man she answers to. She will have to cut her hair, and put on a mustache and act the part. At first it doesn’t seem too difficult but the attraction she feels for Ashland, is overwhelming and she starts having feelings she never expected to have for him. Then when she learns of him having a supposed mistress, who he sees every week, she can’t contain the jealousy and even envy she starts to feel. When she heads to the village, she is mistaken as the women of the evening for Ashland, and soon she is drawn into a web of desire and passion, and she begins to live two lives, and wonders if she could ever share with Ashland the truth of who she really is, or would he hate her forever…
How To Tame Your Duke is the first book in the series, and the first book I have had the pleasure of reading from this author.  Now I will say I had no idea what to expect when I started this one. When I start a new author, I either know I will love it or not love it….I love Juliana Gray. This was such a delight to read and it was quite a full depth romance, which was something I wasn’t expecting. There are many intricate patterns in this story that casts a spell over you as you read. Now I will say, that I wasn’t used to the authors writing style, so it did take me a little while to adjust, and really get fully involved in the story. I do love the way that this author created a flawless story for the reader, and there was quite a bit of substance.
It begins with the hero dressing and acting as a man, and the hero a wounded beast, who just wants his solitude. This story is about two that need affection and love and passion more than anyone, they need that trusting relationship, one only dreams of. Emilie has been forced from the only home she has ever known, and lost her father and now separated from her sisters, feels more isolated than ever. Ashland, was wounded and tortured in the war, and has come back disfigured, wears a mask, and hides most of who he is from the world. But when these two collide, you see the instant spark. I loved the little hidden identity theme, and it creates quite a lovely conflict to the story. I really loved this element to the story, not every author can write it in such a way as Gray has done for us.
Overall an enriching, steamy, and beautifully crafted romance…exquisite in every way!!

Excerpt
Matt’s heart stopped beating. Cliché, Partridge. Watch the clichés. Still, that’s what it  felt  like. Walking  straight toward  him,  like  he  was  being  pulled  on  a  rubber  string, strode that huge hunk of gorgeous he’d seen two nights before. The one related to Cole Harker’s husband. The man moved like an animal, gliding and rippling, and the big bulge in the front of his jeans advertised another kind of animal. Big Bird! Shit, the thing had to  be  at least  at  half-mast,  and it looked  huge. Matt  wanted to  fall  down  and  worship.
Control. Deep breath. He’ll probably walk right by.
Sweet Jesus, he stopped right in front of the table.
“Hi.  I’m  Winter  Thane.  I  saw  you  here  the  other  night  with  my,  uh,  cousin  by marriage, Cole Harker.”
Matt swallowed. Try to be cool. “Yes, I remember he went to speak with you. I’m Matt Partridge.”
“Yes.”
Matt’s eyes widened. Had Winter asked about  him? “Would  you,  uh, care to join me?”
“Thanks.”
Trying  not to  stare at the  play  of muscle in those  hard thighs and the large  bulge between proved more than he was up to. When he glanced up from his inspection, Winter Thane gazed at him with a small smile. It said Caught ya. Matt cleared his throat. “Uh, I was just about to order a beer. Would you like another?”
“No,  I’m  good,  thanks.”  Winter  wrapped  his  beautifully  shaped  lips  around  the head  of the  bottle,  seemed to lovingly  caress it  for  a  second,  and then  sucked  down  a drink.
Holy crap.
Matt waved at the waitress, who hurried over, gazing at Winter most of the time. He ordered a beer, and she rushed off, actually bumping into a patron because she couldn’t stop staring over her shoulder. Who could blame her? Matt chuckled. “You must get that a lot.”
The  guy  shook  that  snowflake  hair.  “No.  Where  I’m  from  there  aren’t  a  lot  of females.”
“You must enjoy being here.” Matt swallowed.
Winter  shrugged.  “City  guy  like  you’d  be  used  to  it.  For  me  it’s  new  and  pretty weird.”
Matt laughed. “Who’d look at me?”
Winter’s blue eyes flashed up. “Who wouldn’t?”
Matt’s  mouth  opened  but  nothing  came  out.  Finally  he  got  his  brain  and  tongue connected. “So, uh, you’re visiting the area?”
Winter’s pale brows pulled together. “My father’s theory is we’re here to stay. I’d say the jury’s out.”
“Not a good experience so far?”
“An  old Chinese  curse  said,  ‘May  you live in interesting times.’  So  far the trip’s been interesting.” Those melted ice eyes raised slowly to Matt. “But it could get better.”
Every  resolve  Matt  had  ever  made  tried  to  dissolve  in  that  field  of  blue.  Come on, Partridge. You’re investigating these people. The  arrival  of the  waitress  felt like  a lifeline, and  he  grabbed the  bottle, threw way too much money  on the table, and  drank down half the contents in one pull.
“Thank you, sir.” She batted her eyes at Winter and left.
Winter pointed at the bottle. “Thirsty?”
“Uh, yes, I guess so.”
“So you’re the law?”
“How’d you know that?”
Winter grinned. “Aside from the haircut that speaks of gray suits and gray cars?”
Matt ducked his head and ran a hand over his carefully barbered light brown hair.
“Bad, huh?”
“Nah. It’s cute. Besides, I asked Ben Freedman about you.”
Matt’s heart leaped and stomach sank—the war of suspicion and desire. “Why?”
Again, the long, slow gaze. “I think you’re gorgeous.”
Matt frowned. Suspicion won. “Come on. Don’t give me that shit.”
Winter cocked his head. “You don’t believe me?”
“Of course  not. Why would a  guy like  you think  I’m  gorgeous?” He  drawled the word and narrowed his eyes. “Did you hear somewhere that I’m gay? What the fuck are you playing at?”
Winter smiled slowly. “I hoped you liked men. Or maybe I should say, I hoped you liked me.”
“Who the fuck wouldn’t like you?” He pushed his bottle away. “I should go.”
Winter’s  hand  clamped  on  his  forearm.  Long,  slender  fingers  carved  with  sinew.
“Please don’t. I’m not a very civilized creature, so maybe I don’t know how to say what I feel.”
Matt tried to catch his breath. “And what’s that?”
“That I want to take you out into the trees and fuck you until you scream.”
Every cell in his body  froze—except his cock, which expanded like someone was blowing it up through a hose. “Who told you I’m gay?”
“No one. I don’t know if you’re gay. I don’t know if I’m gay. I don’t give a damn. I just know I want to suck you and fuck you until daylight.”
Matt  stared  into  those  mesmerizing  eyes,  and  his  hands  shook.  He  couldn’t  look away. “People don’t say shit like that.”
“People don’t. I do.”
