Synopsis
He will expose her as the criminal he seeks, or seduce her as the woman he desires…

An old maid—that’s all Lady Christina McMorlan, daughter to the Duke of Forres, is to society now that she’s past thirty. She hosts her father’s parties and cares for her siblings, knowing she’ll never have her own home and family. She has no time to pine, however. By night, she’s The Lady, head of a notorious whiskey-smuggling gang that supports her impoverished clan. They’re always one step ahead of the revenue man—until Lucas Black shows up.

Rejecting his title and the proper society that disparaged his mother, Lucas earns his living running a successful gambling house. He’s also a spy, charged with bringing down the Forres Gang. He thinks The Lady’s just a bored society spinster. She thinks he’s a lost child playing at rebellion. And when the truth comes out, it’s not just their love on the line…

My Review

Claimed by The Laird is the third book in the series, and I really had a fun time with this one. It is a story based on a man searching for the murderer of his brother, and a woman that will do anything to save her people…even resort to illegal activities. Christina is a nobleman’s daughter, and the only one that can save the tenants from the higher taxes, with the making and distribution of whiskey. She isn’t afraid of consequences, or of a man posing as a servant, whose kisses makes her blood boil. Claimed by The Laird is a very unique story, and it quite a solid romance. Not a story to fully get into, but one that you slowly get involved with and learn to fall in love with it gradually. This story is a lighter tone than you expect, but I really loved that quality. The characters in the story are endearing and charm you.  It is the perfect read on a warm summer’s day at the park or a evening listening to the crickets. Its sweet, charming, and enough romance to satisfy those sweet urges!! TASTEFUL AND DELECTABLE WITH EVERY CHAPTER!

Synopsis (Goodreads)
A wicked attraction!

Fashionable society widow Lady Mairi MacLeod cannot understand the dark passion that binds her to Jack Rutherford. He is everything she dislikes in a man, rakish, arrogant and charming, and she would prefer to forget the night of wicked passion that she spent in his arms.

But when Mairi is threatened by a blackmailer, Jack is the only man who can protect her. As they work together to uncover where the danger lies, their passion reignites. Little by little, the masks they wear burn away, and their most private secrets come to light…

Scottish Brides – Where Regency elegance meets Highland passion!

My Review
Lady Mairi has spent the last four years mourning her husband, who was her best childhood friend. She keeps a dark secret that she fears coming out. So one night feeling restless and caved in, she desires to do something no one would expect the respectable widow to do. So she goes to a masquerade ball, and seduces a man she has always had a wild attraction to, Jack Rutherford. After sharing a night of wild passion, she leaves Jack unsuspecting on her true identity–or that is what she thought. A few months pass, until Jack is asked to escort her to a special event for her sister. But when Jack and Mairi meet once more, Jack recognizes her for the woman that he has dreamed of ever since that special night. For years Jack and Mairi have shared a contention between each other, but with a passion stirring, their dislike for each other soon turns into something deeper. But with Mairi being blackmailed, and being put in danger, she and Jack will need to work together to get to the bottom of that which threatens Mairi and her very life.

One Night With the Laird is the second in the series, by Nicola Cornick. I was able to get a copy of One Night With The Laird through Netgalley and HQN. I have always enjoyed HQN, and since I enjoyed the first one so much, I was looking forward to reading One Night With The Laird. When I read the blurb, I wasn’t too excited to read it, I don’t know why since it is the type of story I would love. So it took me a while to pick this one up, but I am glad that I did. I had no problem getting fully into the story, and before I fully realized it, the story was over. I was able to read it in just a few hours. It starts out with seeing the special sensual night between Jack and Mairi. Then they don’t see each other for a few months, but when they do meet again, a passion sparks, and tension rises, and boy enough heat in the room it fogged up the windows. Then Jack learns of a plot of a distant cousin to Mairi’s husband who wants all the wealth she inherited. Jack, even though he feels like Mairi is cold and distant, he can’t seem but help her with the danger that she is in. Jack soon learns that Mairi is anything but cold, she has had a life that in the past years has put her in a shell and she has had to protect herself.

Jack, is the type to carouse and fill his nights with women. But after sharing a night with the masked lady, he is mesmerized and caught in her spell. He does have a past and suffers from guilt and shame, and shields himself, by being brooding and aloof. I found him sexy yet charming and doesn’t let Mairi control him like she does everything else in her life. He is firm but not overly controlling. Mairi I couldn’t fully like. As a main character and the heroine, I did like certain characteristics, but I felt like she was too harsh with Jack and was letting her past control her present. I did sense that her faults made her seem more easier to relate with though. The love story that develops between Jack and Mairi was powerful and highly sensual. I thought in a scene or two, it was too much. I don’t want to give anything away, but a bit too rough for my taste (a bit of BDSM-which isn’t my cup of tea), so I did skimmed over those parts, however for the most part I felt like the author created a lively story.

Although I found it to be a stimulating and a solid romance, I did have a few issues with it. I felt as if the flow of the story wasn’t as smooth, it had some rough spots, and it was almost like riding on a bumpy roller coaster. I did like the way the plot was full of creativity and excitement. Overall I enjoyed the witty and entertaining tale with a sizzling passion to warm you up on a winters night. WONDERFUL!!

First Line
It took ten minutes to cross from Edinburgh New Town to Edinburgh Old Town in a carriage, and for all of those ten minutes Jack had an almost uncontrollable erection the like of which he had never experienced in his life.

Favorite Quote
” All I want,” he said, “is to have you in my bed again.”He kissed her, his lips moving against hers with a possessive demand that stole both her breath and her resistance.

Synopsis
An Indecent Proposal!

Lady Lucy MacMorlan may have forsworn men and marriage, but that doesn’t mean she won’t agree to profit from writing love letters for her brother’s friends – letters that become increasingly racy as her fame grows. That is, until she deliberately ruins the betrothal of a notorious laird, Robert, Marquis of Methven.

Past centuries of bloodshed have left the Methven and MacMorlan families bitter enemies and Robert is furious that Lady Lucy’s letters have cost him the bride he needs so urgently to save his ancestral clan lands. Now he makes Lucy a shocking proposal; in return for his silence she must become his wife and provide him with the heir he needs. It is an inconvenient marriage of convenience but can the rugged laird and the bluestocking beauty fight against the power of love?

Scottish Brides – Where Regency elegance meets Highland passion!

My Review
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley by Harlequin. This is the first time that I have read from this author, and I really enjoyed myself wit this story. It was a bit unique in the way it developed, It starts out a bit slow in the beginning, but when you really start to get into it, then the plot tends to escalate even further. I wouldn’t say that this is my favorite romance by any means, I would say it was enjoyable and fun but nothing about it really stood out to me.

Robert, has just returned from Canada, when his grandfather dies, and he must take over responsibility of his estates as Laird. He finds out though that he has to marry soon, and not just any bride, there is a very short list of prospects. And he must produce a heir within a year after the marriage, in order to keep his lands. He is very devoted to repairing the damage his grandfather had committed. But then his bride ends up eloping with another man, and the culprit is Lady Lucy. Lucy is a bluestocking to its truest form, and a very talented author. When her brother comes to her for help in writing love letter, she sees no harm in it, and needs the money. But when she finds herself in a situation where she is unable to keep the truth from Robert, she knows that she is in trouble. Then he  proposes marriage to her of all things!! She is determined to never marry, but when Robert kisses her, all of her protests melt away, and she doesn’t know what she really wants. But when she ends up having no choice but to marry him, she wonders if she has made the right choice.

I felt like this story was pretty well developed for the most part, and I would characterize it as a sweet love story. However I felt while reading it, a certain element missing. I felt that it didn’t have enough “pizazz” to really captivate me. I would say it was overall a very enjoyable story that had some positive aspects to the story, but its not the “impossible to put down”. As a matter of fact, I could easily put it down. It also ended a bit too quick, and I felt especially at the last part of the book that it was missing something, it was cut short I thought at the end. But I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys a quick and poignant romance.
