His heart may be the last thing she ever steals . . .

Marlowe is a pickpocket, a housebreaker—and a better actress than any professional on the stage. She runs with the Covent Garden Cubs, a gang of thieves living in the slums of London’s Seven Dials. It’s a fierce life, and Marlowe has a hard outer shell. But when she’s alone, she allows herself to think of a time before—a dimly remembered life when she was called Elizabeth.

Maxwell, Lord Dane, is intrigued when his brother, a hired investigator, ropes him into his investigation of the fiercely beautiful hellion. He teaches her to navigate the social morass of the ton while his brother attempts to confirm her true identity. But Marlowe will not escape so easily. Instead, Dane is drawn into her world of danger and violence, where the student becomes the teacher and love is the greatest risk of all.

My Review

Marlowe, has always been a thief and housebreaker, and has always tried to prove herself as one of the “boys”. But there is a part of her life she doesn’t remember, when she was young and her name was Elizabeth, a life that is no longer hers. But during a housebreaking mission, she is taken against her will and placed in the hands of Maxwell, Lord Dane. Maxwell is furious at his brother for putting a scrawny and ill-mannered chit in his hands to take care of. That is the last thing that he needs. Maxwell, doesn’t think much of Marlowe, except she is a danger to society, and he has a hard time convincing her of the truth of her true identity. Marlowe has lived her life on the streets, but she suspects that she may be the woman they are looking for, a woman with a future, and she wants to believe in that future, and she can’t deny the attraction that she feels for Maxwell, but there is a danger to them being together, a man who would destroy her before he could ever let her go…
Wow!! That is all I have to say about this one. Shana Galen is such a talented writer, and I feel like every time I read her, I am amazed by how well I enjoy her stories. I would say she is a top favorite author of mine, and always has been since I first started reading her. I wasn’t sure what to think about this story before I started reading it, but once I got into the first chapter, I knew I was in for a fun and wild ride…and I was right. You never know what a story will bring out to the reader, but this story by far gave me thrills and laughter and pure excitement. After finishing this story I just want to do a little happy dance in the street under the moonlight LOL kind of crazy with the cold weather, but I had such a fun time reading this one, and it has been a while since I have enjoyed a book so much.
The story is pretty basic, at first you view it as an ordinary story, but somehow this story turned from ordinary to extraordinary. You don’t see it coming until you are fully entrenched. The story starts off with Marlowe on one of her pickpocketing days, and she was such a hoot, I loved her…I really found her amusing and quite entertaining. She definitely has spirit and isn’t afraid to show it. She hates her “bubbies” and thinks of them as useless, which was hilarious to me, on how she views her body. Like being a woman is a curse. But in her lifestyle choice, it is a curse. What she does, being a beautiful woman has little purpose, at least until she meets a man that makes her quiver in delight and desire. Maxwell, is a lord of the Ton, involved in politics, and thinks of himself as content. But when Marlowe is brought to him and he is forced to take care of her until she is ready to meet her parents, he must groom and teach her to be a lady, and Maxwell can’t think of a worst fate being placed upon him. I loved the sparks between these two, and boy can they fight. I loved their interaction and once they got past the whole kidnapping issue, and Marlowe came to terms with what was happening, their relationship really started to progress. Their connection was so different and I just had the hardest time putting this one down, the reader starts to see how perfect they are for each other in the end, because what they have together is what is more important than trivial things.
This author has succeeded in beginning a series with a solid beginning, a tale of adventure, passion, danger and fascinating twists and turns that will enthrall you completely. Entertainment and laughter on every page.  A PURE DELIGHT!!
Excerpt

“While I do not usually object to a woman in this position,” Dane said quietly, “I must confess something about the dagger between your lips is less than romantic.”

Marlowe reached for the dagger, but he was faster, grasping her hands and pinning them at her side. She lost her balance and settled on top of him, and he pushed her down so that she would fall forward if she tried to swing her legs out from under her.

“What, exactly, are you doing?”

She couldn’t answer, not with the dagger in her mouth, and she shook her head, shaking her arms to indicate she wanted to be freed from his hold.

“What’s the matter? Can’t speak with a knife between your lips? Hazard of your profession, I assume.” He began to rise, sliding her along his body, as he did so. Even beneath the layers of bedclothes, she could feel the strength and power of him. His hands, remarkably strong, held hers at her sides. Nothing she did would free them. He was far too strong. It was times like this she hated being a woman. Gideon would have freed himself easily. He was also tall enough that he wouldn’t have needed to climb onto the bed.

When the swell was sitting, with Marlowe conveniently in his lap, he leaned forward so his face was inches from hers. “Drop the knife.”

She wanted to tell him it was a dagger, a subtle but important distinction, but she couldn’t speak and hold on to her weapon. And she couldn’t think very well with her body pressed against his. Something about their positions made her skin tingle and her belly flutter. She should want to pull away. Instead, she fought the urge to push closer, to rock against him. What the bloody hell was wrong with her?

“Drop the knife or I’ll take it.”

She laughed. Just let him try.

“Very well.”

To her surprise, he leaned closer, his lips moving so near to hers she could smell his breath. Like the rest of him, it smelled clean. She was so intent upon smelling his breath, so intent upon the heat of his body pulsing against hers, she forgot to move her head back, and she jolted in shock when his lips touched hers. What was he doing? Kissing her?

But then his teeth flashed and closed on the dagger’s blade, and she reacted too slowly. He yanked it from her mouth, and she had no choice but to let it go or risk the blade cutting the corners of her sensitive flesh.

“Bastard!” she yelled. He released her hands then, allowing the dagger to drop into one of his. She swung at him, and her fist collided with a satisfying thunk against his cheek. But her satisfaction was short-lived as he recovered easily and flipped her over. Suddenly, she was beneath him on the bed, and all the warmth from the bedclothes and his body were covering her. She bucked immediately, trying to throw him off, but he was solid and heavy, and when his hands grasped her wrists and pinned them to the pillow, she knew she was trapped.

Synopsis
He’s Getting Tired of Deception…

Baron Winslow Keating is honor-bound to finish one last mission as an elite spy for the Barbican group even though he just wants to go home and be with his family. But after years of secrecy and absence, his daughters hardly know him, and his wife has given up on him.

She Wants to Try a Little Intrigue…

Lady Elinor has had enough of domestic boredom. She contemplates an affair with a rakish spy, only to discover a world of intrigue and treachery that she never knew existed. Even more shocking, her neglectful husband is suddenly very attentive—quite the jealous type—and apparently there is much more to him than she ever knew.

My Review

Lady Sophia, also known as “The Saint”, is a spy  and has loved doing this work since she was a kid. Her father guided her to this point, and even though she has been married for quite some time, she loves the life of a spy, the danger and the intrigue. But when a fellow spy steals her plan to capture a traitor she is outraged, but then she learns that she will be getting retired, with Napoleon sent to Elba. The last thing she wants to do is return to her boring life, and average husband. Lord Adrian, has worked hard to become a well known spy, but after succeeding in his mission, his boss, tells him he needs to make a life with his pretty wife and get some hobbies. Adrian would do anything to get back into the business. When both Sophia and Adrian receive a note, to meet at midnight, neither one of them suspects, that both of them have been chosen to solve a murder investigation, and the one that wins, gets back into the Barbican group again. Adrian is shocked to learn that his wife, is a fellow spy and a pretty admirable one at that, and a woman!! At first Adrian and Sophia can barely stand each other, but as they work together to solve the murder, they start to fall in love… and will they choose a life of a spy or to be with each other…

Lord and Lady Spy is the first in this hilarious espionage series by Shana Galen. Now Galen has been one of my favorite authors for quite some time. When I recently had the chance to read Love and Let spy, I was beyond intrigued with the set up of the series, and I was just waiting on pins and needles to read Adrian and Sophia’s story. From the beginning, you sense very strong similarities to the movie “Mr. and Mrs., Smith” and in fact there are many common denominators, that made this a fun and tantalizing read that kept me on the edge of my seat, and a page turner….PAGE TURNER!! Yep you heard me folks, a story to keep you guessing, laughing your head off, enough heat to send shills down your spine and a exciting plot to keep you more engaged than you can handle.

The story begins with seeing each side of Adrian and Sophia living their separate ,secret, spy lives. Then they are both being retired, and having to learn to be husband and wife again. But when they learn that both have been spy’s, for the same group, for years, they take it out on each other. And what a hoot they were to see…I could watch these two go at it for hours. Adrian has worked very hard to get into the barbican group, and has loved every moment. He does care for Sophia, and misses the intimacy they had when they were first married, but missions he was sent out on, kept him from building anything substantial with her. Sophia is reluctant to give into the temptation that Adrian offers, she has suffered grief and pain, and even though she was kept busy with her spy work, she is afraid of getting hurt again by working with Adrian. Both Adrian and Sophia are very stubborn, talented, and tend to argue more than getting along, except in the bedchamber..then there is pure harmony and bliss. LOL What a adventure this story was, and I just couldn’t get enough of it. I do love a good historical espionage romance, and Shana Galen is the queen of this genre. A story that will sneak its way into your hearts, and completely engrossing from beginning to end. A love story that comes to life with vivid detail, exciting scenes, wit evident on each page!! STIMULATING!!

Synopsis
Her name is Bonde, Jane Bonde . . .

A beautiful and eligible member of the ton, Jane has more than a few secrets: she’s one of the Crown’s most elite agents. She may be deadly, but she doesn’t know a thing about fashion, flirtation, or love . . . until Dominic Griffyn shakes up her carefully stirred world and asks her to be his bride. He’s exactly the kind of man she’s not looking for. And he’s dangerous, because falling into his arms is so much more satisfying than saving England from her enemies.

He’s an improper gentleman who needs a wife. . .

Tall, dark, and tortured, Dominic Griffyn is haunted by demons from his past. When his stepfather insists that he marry, Dominic allows himself to hope that the beautiful but mysterious Miss Bonde might help him forget his troubles. As they grow closer, it’s clear that there’s more to Jane than danger. She might be just what his neglected heart needs.

My Review

Dominic Griffyn, has some demons from his past that still haunt him, and the last thing he needs is to be forced to marry a woman he doesn’t know. But when a near scandal came about because of him, he knows that eventually he will need to marry. Jane Bonde, lost her parents as a girl, and her uncle took her in, and trained her to be a spy for the government. When her aunt and uncle tell her she will be married to Dominic, she is shocked. All she wants in her life is to be a spy, how on earth could she be a wife too? But when a enemy of her uncle’s, threatens everything they hold dear, Dominic and Jane may be the key to saving them all from a enemy that is determined to destroy them all at any cost…

Love and Let Spy is the third in the  series and the first book from this series I have been able to read. I found that this story just flew for me, and by the end, I was like…how on earth did that happen? I found this story to be fun and full of charm and wit. Even though its part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone, but I do wish I had read the series in order, just by having more background information on the other characters involved in the story, but not necessary.

I loved the way that the plot came together, its a easy story to follow and adds some entertainment to keep you laughing for a while after the story is over. The chemistry between Kane and Dominic is electric and instantaneous, this author delivers a story that has similarities to James Bond, that will only entice you further into the story. A lovely romantic tale of sexy spies, dangerous missions, and a story that never stops!!! STIMULATING ON EVERY PAGE!!!

Synopsis
She Wants Him…
She Wants Him Not…

Lily Dawson, dubbed the Countess of Charm by the Prince Regent himself, plays the role of the courtesan flawlessly while her real purpose is spying in the service of the Crown. Her mission now is to seduce a duke to test his true loyalties. She’ll do it, even though the man she really wants is Andrew Booth-Payne, Earl of Darlington—the duke’s son.

Andrew is furious when he finds himself rivaling his father for Lily’s attention. When he uncovers Lily’s mission, Andrew is faced with impossible choices. It seems he is destined to betray either his family, his country, or the longings of his own heart..

My Review

Lily, ever since she was a little girl, admired her father for his profession and so she followed his footsteps and now works as a spy for the government. Lily has been called on a new mission, to seduce the Duke, Andrew’s father and find out what secrets he is hiding and if he is a traitor. She knows that she will have one obstacle, Andrew. Lily has loved Andrew for years but he has never returned the sentiment, but has always had a interest in one of her closest friend. Now she is forced to handle him so that she can gain the trust of his father even though seducing him is the last thing she wants to do. Andrew, is outraged at Lily seducing his father, when it is clear they both share a passionate desire for each other. He doesn’t understand her purpose, and doubts her real reason for coming to their estate. As Lily comes close to finding what she is looking for, she finds that there is one person she can’t let go of, a man whom she loves more fiercely than ever. But a danger lurks ahead, will Lily and Andrew be able to work together and bring down the enemy that would destroy them and England?

Sapphires Are An Earl’s Best Friend is the third in the series, and we see the last Jewel have her story. From the beginning of the story, Lily always fascinated me. She is the most mysterious of all three, and so I was very excited to read her book. Shana Galen is a favored author of mine, from her older works to her latest one, I feel like she just keeps getting better. I was given a copy of this ARC in return of a honest review from Sourcebooks and Netgalley. I was really thrilled to be able to get a chance to read this one, since I have adored every book of this series. It was very thrilling at times to get into this story, and it didn’t take much effort to get fully into it.  The story starts off with a quick pace so it really draws the reader in quickly. The chemistry between Lily and Andrew is instantaneous and boy the fireworks….I loved the tension between these two lively characters. They never let up, its just one thing after another. I felt like I was caught up in a whirlwind of emotion whenever these two souls collide. Haha. Oh boy, did I enjoy myself in this one. There was times when I felt the consistency to the story was a bit lacking, that I didn’t feel in the previous two books. Saying that however, I immensely enjoyed myself, and there was quite a bit of powerful elements to this story that made it into a winning romance of a read.

I felt like there was nothing held back and it was full blast most of the way. The characters were very engaging, and quite a few times I will admit I laughed, but then there was a couple instances where I needed a tissue, since there was some raw emotion displayed that reaches out to the reader in a very personal way. At first I didn’t know what to expect from the blurb, however as you read further into the story, you start to see complicated issues and a bit of drama. There was a hint of true depth and insight into these characters, that pull you like magnets. I felt drawn to both Lily and Andrew, and the way the author writes this story, I felt as if I could feel what they were feeling in the “moment”.The side characters were a wonderful additional spicy flavor to the story. I really liked Andrew’s sister (she was charming and like able). I did enjoy the way the story turns out, although there were a couple times I felt like I didn’t receive a couple of ‘satisfying’answers of questions that I was asking in my mind as I read this story.  And maybe that was the author’s intent, use my imagination and all that nonsense, frankly I would have preferred the answers LOL. Oh well.

Overall a stunning display of romance, suspense, thrills and anticipations, sensual desires, and the magic of true love. A story that will take you places you only can dream of. A book to enrich and captivate and is beyond memorable!!! SPARKLING GEM!!

Synopsis
Her Mysterious Past Is The Best Revenge…

Fallon, the Marchioness of Mystery, is a celebrated courtesan with her finger on the pulse of high society. She’s adored by men, hated by their wives. No one knows anything about her past, and she plans to keep it that way.

Only He Can Offer Her A Dazzling Future…

Warrick Fitzhugh will do anything to protect his compatriots in the Foreign Office, including seduce Fallon, who he thinks can lead him to the deadliest crime lord in London. He knows he’s putting his life on the line…

To Warrick’s shock, Fallon is not who he thinks she is, and the secrets she’s keeping are exactly what make her his heart’s desire..

My Thoughts
If You Give A Rake A Ruby is the second installment in the Jewels of the Ton series. I have grown to greatly admire this author and the beautifully written stories she creates. This new series has surprised me, and I have to say that I could hardly wait to get my hands on this one. I was lucky enough to get a copy of this one from my local library. After reading the first one, I could wait to read Fallon’s story. I have always had a soft spot for Fallon. At first she appears to be proud and aloof, but there is so much I enjoyed about her. The story is bit of a spy story, and it got its claws in me from the beginning.

Fallon, is one the two jewels of the Ton left, after her friend Juliette’s marriage, she feels a bit envious of her happiness. Fallon has a murky past, a past that is about to catch up with her. When Warrick comes to her and confronts her, and threatens that unless she works with him, he will reveal who she really is. Fallon is shocked that she is being blackmailed, and even more surprised that Warrick was able to dig into her past as well informed as he apparently is. Warrick works for the Foreign Office as a spy, and must find the man responsible for threatening the lives of his fellow spies. He is desperate to get to the truth and destroy the danger to himself and others he has long served with. When he meets Fallon, he is astounded by her beauty and willfulness. In the beginning, his plan is to use her as bait, to get to the bottom of this mystery. But when he starts to fall in love with Fallon, his motives change, to protecting her. However her father is after them both, and only when Fallon will accept and trust in Warrick’s love, will they be able to defeat those that threaten them and those that they love.

Overall I fell in love with this latest installment of the Jewels of the Ton!! This story is about the second Jewel, Fallon, who tends to wrap around your heart from the beginning. Warrick is a bit of a rascal, which I loved about him. He has led a dangerous life, but he has a soft spot for Fallon. At first he has a bit of a rough edge, however we see the protective side of him. What I would give to have a man like him at my side, I wouldn’t fear anything. Fallon is strong willed and a fighter, but she does struggle with a bit of self doubt. As you learn where she truly comes from, you see where she has gotten her strength. There is such a passionate connection between Fallon and Warrick, this story tends to put you through a emotional ringer, but I will warn you it has a bit of a small cliffhanger, that really surprised me, and I wanted to scream “NOOOO” It can’t be over yet!!! But it was, and yet I felt fully satisfied by the end of reading it. A Tale full of adventure, mystery and drama that is bound to get you bouncing off the walls in anxiety. WELL DONE!!

Synopsis (Goodreads)
This passionate, action-packed Regency romance by RT Reviewer’s Choice award-winning author Shana Galen features the swashbuckling Sebastien Harcourt, Marquis de Valère, and the nautical genius heroine destined to best him.

After escaping France on a privateer’s ship, Sebastien becomes the notorious privateer, Captain Cutlass. His reputation as a rogue precedes him, and he’s undefeated in battle . . . until he crosses swords with the beautiful daughter of a British admiral.

Raeven Russell is out for revenge, but now she’s not so sure she wants the dashing captain to change his wicked ways.

My Thoughts

Summary
Raeven is burning with the desire to get her revenge for her fiancee’s death by Captain Cutlass a pirate she has been searching for. She finally finds him, and vows to kill him here and now. Only she never expects to be faced with such a opponet that makes her burn with desire, a passion she has never known. Raeven doesn’t expect to feel the desire to kill him to weaken and her desire for him to strengthen. She see’s a side to him, a part of him, that she knows she could never harm or maim or kill. Bastien has practically lived on the seas for many years, ever since he lost his family as a young boy. Now he is well known as Captain Cutlass, also known as a pirate. Bastien is out to find the man who murdered the man who raised him and taught him everything he knew. Who was more like a father to him, and now he is hunting him. He doesn’t expect to find a woman thirsting for his blood, and it only makes him want her even more. He finds her irresistible and before he knows it he finds himself falling  in love with her, and more than anything wants her in his life, but knows she would have to choose between her father and a pirate. Will their love be enough?

The Hero (Bastien Harcourt)
Bastien, was once raised to be a aristocrat. But then his family was murdered in France by peasants, and barely escaped with his life. He found himself on a ship, learning the ins and outs of being a sailor. Now he is a privateer, and has recently lost a man he considered a father to him. So he has made a vow to revenge the death of murdered, a fellow pirate who betrayed a friend. Bastien has a unexpected surprise in Raeven. At first he didn’t even know she was a woman, but once she was revealed to him, he wants to to show her passion and the delights of his bed. He didn’t realize that he would end up falling in the love with her and wanting to marry her but knowing it would never be possible.

The Heroine (Raeven Russell)
Raeven, grew up on the seas. Her mother died giving birth to her, so her father, an admiral in the British Navy, raised her on his ship. Raeven knows everything about a ship, and could do everything a sailor does. Its like breath to her living on the sea. She falls in love with a fellow captain in the navy, but when he dies and she hears that a certain pirate kills him, she wants his blood. When she goes out searching for him though, she doesn’t expect to fall in love with the man. But from the first moment she crosses swords with him, she knows that everything is going to change, because he is unlike anything she has ever met.

My Thoughts
Finally, I have gotten my hands on the final in the series, that I have just fallen in love with. There was so much that I liked about this story. After reading the first two, I was looking forward to reading Bastien’s story. I just love a good pirate romance though, and this definitely won my heart over. Bastien, has made a life for himself as a pirate, but has slowly started trade. Currently he is on a road for revenge, but as his enemy eludes him, he starts to seduce Raeven, a woman who, we see, he starts to really care for. Raeven, is a fighter and has fiery spirit. Their first meeting, totally had my attention. She tries to kill him at first, which was very entertaining. I do love a good sword fight LOL. But it was even more fun seeing these two go at it, and see their story progress. There was a sense of fun and playfulness throughout the story. It definitely fit the bill for a swashbuckling adventure. There was sizzling romance, spirited adventure and enough danger to blow you out of the water. Such vivid portrayal of a intense love story that had me laughing one moment, and crying the next. There was such a display of emotion that was able to be felt by the reader, it could be very intense at times. But I do revel in a emotional provocative story that only warmed by heart. A story to be read by anyone who loves a good adventure with a perfect balance of sensuality and intrigue.

First Line
“That’s him,” Percy whispered. “I’m almost certain of it.”

Favorite Quote
Merde, but you are exasperating.”
” I resent–”
He closed his mouth over hers, effectively silencing her. She tasted surprisingly sweet. If her hair had smelled like cherries, her mouth was more the same. Ripe. Dark. And a little tart. No surprise, as she had spirit, what the English called pluck. It maddened and drew him. even now, as she fought his kiss, he alternately wanted to tame and free her.

The Hero (Armand, Compte De Valere)
Armand, doesn’t remember much from his past. He just remembers pain and torture, and being forgotten in a prison in France. He has nightmares of fire and heat and burning. Armand was able to barely escape the chateau before it was burned. Which led him to being alone as a young boy, with no food, no home, and no family. But then he ended up eventually being in a prison, held in a tower, where he was only fed once or twice a week, enough to keep him alive. He hasn’t been able to speak to anyone for years, but within a day of being around Felicity he has been able to force himself to speak. He knows she is his destiny.

The Heroine (Felicity Bennett)

He has a fierce look about it, but she feels a connection with him, where she discovers a fierce desire for Armand. Armand needs her, and she needs him even more. She just hopes that her past won’t destroy the love and trust he has for her.

My Thoughts
After reading The Making of a Duchess, I had heard some average things about “The Making of a Gentleman”, so I wasn’t expecting a great and fabulous story. I just love it when I am wrong though. The circumstances of the story are exactly what I love about a good book. The hero is different, the kind that we don’t see too often. He is a very tortured hero, he can’t even speak, has never felt desire for anything, and can’t abide another’s touch. Armand has a strong will though, stubborn to a fault, and defends fiercely. Armand is a virgin hero. Which is one of the things I enjoyed about this story. Its rare to find a virgin hero, and I enjoyed seeing Armand and Felicity grow together in a intimate way. It was such a delight to see these two fall in love, it was very heart wrenching at times. Felicity, has a difficult past, grieves for her father, but is determined to help Armand, even though her life is about to crumble. I did feel like Felicity could have had a bit more backbone though, but eventually we see her finally have one toward the end. I did like how Felicity is able to reach a part of Armand that no one else is able to, there were many sweet and tender moments of the story that totally captured my heart. Overall a entertaining read, that had such vivid descriptions and such a delicious story that is unforgettable. Full of intensity, passion, intrigue that turns into a wonderful tale.

First Line
Eleven year old Armand Harcourt, the Comte de Valere, should have been asleep.

Favorite Quote
She couldn’t remember ever being so drawn to a man, had certainly never been drawn to Charles like this. but this man–this aristocrat, whom she had expected to abhor–drew her like no other. The comte said more with his eyes than most men did with a lifetime of words.

Summary
Julien, at age thirteen, was changed forever when french revolutionaries and peasants stormed his family’s home, killed his brothers and father, and with his mother along his side, barely escaping with their very lives. Now in England, Julien has rebuilt his family’s fortune and wealth, enough to make sure his mother is taken care of the rest of her life. But there is another reason, he believes that at least one of his brothers, Armand, is still alive and being held somewhere in France, and he must find a way to get there, even with a war going on. In the midst of making his plans, a family friend of her mothers has sent her daughter to be courted by Julien and even to have him marry her. Julien, doesn’t have much belief or faith in love, even though his parents deeply cared for each other. But out of respect for his mother, he agrees, only Lady Serafina is not what he ever expected. Sarah Smith, has been enlisted, not by her own choice, to be a spy within three days. She is told she must find as much information on the Duc de Valere as possible since he is suspected of being a traitor and a spy due to his recent visits to France. However, she never thought Julien would be so irresistible or this task would be more challenging than she ever imagined. Because she is starting to fall in love with this man, suspected traitor, but one who she feels herself losing her heart to.

The Hero (Julien Harcourt)
Julien, was very young when he lost his younger brothers and his father, and his own home. He and his parents knew it was dangerous, but they treated their servants fair, but in the end they turned on him and his family. Having to travel to England, Julien had to rebuild everything, and now that he has, he has a new duty…find one of his brothers that may have survived. He knows he must get to France soon, but he also has another problem….a young woman he is suppose to marry …who doesn’t necessarily want to be courted. Julien finds her endearing but he suspects that she is hiding something…and he must get to the bottom of it.

The Hero (Sara Smith)
Sara, is a orphan, dropped on the porch of a establishment, and has no family to call her own. Sara has never felt wanted or needed. She is now a respectable governess, but while on a job, tutoring children, she is brought into the Foreign Office employment. Her boss, has instructed her that she must become a spy in three days or be thrown out into the street with no reference and no where to go. Sara knows she has no choice, but hates that she will have to become someone else. As she finds herself being courted by Julien Harcourt, she finds him breathtaking, and has no idea how she is suppose to prove his guilt as a traitor; when she doesn’t even believe him to be one. But she is determined to get to the heart of the matter, before she does something foolish as fall in love with a man so above her it could be funny.

My Thoughts
The Making of the Duchess is the first in the series…which doesn’t happen very often. Most oftentimes I read a series out of order, but I decided to read this one in order. After recently reading from this author I was just about jumping up and down in my seat, excited to read this. It was a whole different style of story than others that I have read from this author. For one, its plot has a more serious tone to it. There were only a few times I laughed, when I usually I am just cracking myself up in her books. For those of you who have read this one, you know what I am talking about. I was expecting a story that would just be so full of witty humor and silly yet fun scenes…boy was I wrong. Don’t get me wrong….I did love this one, and I would recommend it to anyone that loves a good spy romance. However you need to expect it to be more serious, not as carefree. Let me lay out some of the few things that I just loved about The Making Of  A Duchess. First, I loved the fast and smooth flow of the plot and story. It was like floating on a river, so smooth and steady. It had its breakneck pace, that is common with this author, that keeps a reader fully enthralled. I also loved the depth of each character, there was so much personality and spirit that I was endeared to them from the beginning. There were many surprises at various times throughout the book, that it keeps you shaking with anticipation. I also loved the mystery and intrigue element to the plot, that had me guessing and I ended shocked at certain times. I loved the way the story is so beautiful woven in detail and the imagery is so vivid I felt like I was there in the story, and I was flipping through the pages as fast as I could read them. Another winner for this author!!! A story that will have you from the first page. I just dare you to put it down. LOL I can hardly wait to read Armand’s story. 🙂

The First Line
Julien woke suddenly, his eyes wide and focused on the ceiling above his bed.

My Favorite Quote
“Tu es si belle” With a groan, he took her in his arms. Enveloped in his strength and warmth, she melted into him. His lips caressed hers so gently and tenderly that she moaned. She wanted more. She ached to feel wanted. Ached to feel beautiful

My Thoughts
I can’t say how much I just ADORED this book!!! I haven’t read this author for a very long time, when I saw this title at my library, I just loved the cover and the blurb and knew I had to pick it up. Boy I am so glad that I did, I would have missed out on a fantastic read that just kept me captivated for a whole afternoon. That’s right…I read it in just a few hours (that’s right…it means I really really liked it) It definitely had its swoon worthy moments, and sexy and strong but yet vulnerable characters that had me feeling totally captivated. The flow of the writing was smooth and seemed to blend in perfectly and keep the reader interested. I also loved the exciting plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what is going to happen next. I also enjoyed the side characters as well, it added additional flavor to the story. The enriching descriptions that are so vivid in detail, this author creates a enchanting setting for any reader to admire. I just love this author’s amazing talent of making a story come to life, with witty scenes that just had me bursting out laughing at random moments, that I am sure others thought I was crazy. But I don’t care…..I LOVED it!!! Had me seduced from the very first line!!! I can’t wait to read the rest of this series, and planning on reading the rest of Galen’s books. New top favorite author!!

My Favorite Quotes ( I just had to share these…the bottom one kept me laughing for so long, but chest hurt. 🙂
And then his pride bubbled to the surface, and he took three steps, caught her about the waist, and swung her around.
“Oh, now what?”
“Now this.” He lowered his mouth to hers and kissed her. He meant the kiss to prove to her that he could be spontaneous, that he was not as she painted him. But of course, as soon as he kissed her, he started wondering if this had been a mistake and if he shouldn’t just go to bed–alone–to prepare for the early morning departure.
And then she kissed him back,
Her mouth moved under his, and she made a small sound like a satisfied cat. And Will forgot all about time and mistakes and everything but the woman in his arms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Jealous? Jealous? I am a duke. I do not feel jealousy.”
To his utter amazement, she put her hands to her hears ears and screamed. “”If I hear you say I am a duke one more time, I will not be responsible for my actions. Duke’s ar enot gods, Will. They are people. They make mistakes, apologize–or at least they should–and feel all sorts of emotions.”
“I suppose you are an expert on such matters.”
“I have known several dukes.”
“”Yes, and I am a duke–”
Her eyes widened, her lips pursed. “I” She shoved him. “Warned” Hard “You” Backward.
“Juliette–”
She shoved him again, and he stumbled against the lip of the tub, faltered, and fell, sloshing warm water all over the floor and soaking his clothing worse than the rain had done.
He stared up at her, water dripping in his eyes. He expected her to apologize, to look horrified, to beg his forgiveness.
Instead, she laughed.
