Emma Ruiz knows her father is innocent. But that doesn’t help her convince the law—not even smoking hot U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe. When McCabe bangs on her door demanding information about how her cancer-stricken father escaped from federal prison, she’ll have to distract him somehow—it may as well be with a stolen kiss.

Landon gets why Emma isn’t saying all she knows. What he doesn’t understand is why he’s putting his reputation, his case, and his badge on the line for a gorgeous person of interest. Much as he’d love to, he can’t let Emma play him. The stakes are higher than either of them can guess. The only way to survive is to trust their instincts. But their instincts want more than one kiss…

My Review

One Kiss More is the second book in the U.S. Marshalls series that Mandy Baxter has written for us. I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to try this one out. I only read it in a few hours, so it’s the type of story that you can breeze your way through with little trouble. What I really admired about this story was how intense it was. Before I started reading it, I honestly hadn’t read the blurb at all, so I honestly didn’t know what to expect…and this story completely blew me away. Mandy Baxter is the type of author that stimulates the reader from page one. The basic summary is that a feisty heroine wants to save her father, and will do anything even keep secrets from the sexy U.S. Marshall, that she has had a crush on for years. But she needs to keep his investigation at bay, but soon they are forced to pose as lovers, and the sexual tension rises tenfold. These two definitely have some great chemistry going on, and you definitely sense that. But you also sense more to their relationship than just hot sex….although that is great. But you see them building a trust and closeness. There is quite a level of danger and intensity to the story, I will warn you, you might want to do some good cardio before reading…that way your heart is strong enough for the level of suspense and danger that takes the story up a few notches. Overall I found this story to be fun and full of unique surprises that I found simply delightful. Keeping an eye out for this author now.

In the dark, the greatest lover can become the most dangerous conspirator…

Footsteps In The Fog

Lord Frederick Aveline, otherwise known as Derick, has successfully kept up appearances as an English nobleman. What no one knows is that he’s a full-blooded Frenchman—a double agent for the British against the French. But there is something else no one knows about Derick. Deciding to leave behind his days of espionage, he’s arrived home in Derbyshire to finish one final order of business: to find and expose a dangerous traitor in their midst.

But Aveline Castle holds its own share of secrets — including murder — and an unexpected lure in the brilliant and feisty Emma Wallingford. Emma’s loyalty lies with acting as the town’s magistrate, and she doesn’t welcome an unanticipated, though appealing, intrusion like Derick’s. As the two of them are drawn closer, the sordid past of Derick’s family comes to light, as does the true nature of his arrival. But when deception, however sweet, is the name of the game, no one can be trusted. And every love — and every life — is at risk.

My Review

Summary

Frederick Aveline, is a peer in the realm, but has been away since he was seventeen years old. Many speculate that he is a french spy, since he is half french. But he is a spy but for England, and has spent most of his adult life in Europe to aid England in the war. He has now come back home, for one last mission, and then plans on leaving everything to start fresh, in America. His mission, go to Derbyshire, to expose a traitor, who is the local magistrate in town. But when he arrives, he finds a innocent young woman missing, and working alone side with the magistrate’s sister, Emma Wallingford. Emma who used to follow him around everywhere, and he nicknamed her “Pygmy” and they developed a strong friendship. Emma, always had a soft spot for Frederick, ever since she was a child, she adored him. But then he left and she realized that she cared for him more than he ever knew. Now he is back, and they are on the search, and having to unravel a mystery, but soon a desire erupts between them, and Frederick will have to decide if he can trust Emma, will all of himself…

The Hero

Frederick Aveline, is quite a complex character, and I quite enjoyed his personality. He had quite a bit of depth to him, and he was the brooding hero that I just always fall in love with. Aveline is a spy for England, but has had to spend most of his time in Europe. To his country, he is only half french, but what they don’t know is he doesn’t have one drop of English blood in him. Frederick struggles with not feeling worthy of the title. Frederick, is quite talented at giving off the image he wants to convey. But he isn’t read for Emma’s smarts. He has always liked Emma, since they were children, even if she followed him everywhere. But he holds great affection for her. Frederick was quite the hero, a bit different than I was expecting. He is charming, handsome, and a scoundrel. But when you dig a bit deeper you see he has a heart of gold, but suffers from the sacrifices he has had to make, and you how tormented he is.

The Heroine

Emma Wallingford, may be a woman, but she is quick and smart and sassy. She is stubborn to a fault and determined to win. Emma was the type of heroine you just admire from the get go. She has tenacity and spirit, but has the sweet endearing quality about her you can relate to at any given moment. I loved how quick she is, and sees through Aveline’s facade of a pompous rake. Emma has a mathematical and logical mind, her father passed away, and her brother is suffering from a mental disability, where he is only lucid for certain periods of time. So she has had to take it upon herself to be the magistrate full time. She is determined to bring a end to crime. She sees things in her mind very logical, and is determined to find out the cause of crime in England and put a stop to it (quite a challenge I know). But she is quite strong willed, and she is smart enough to do it. I loved seeing her character become quite a strong element in the story. No flight young miss we have here, I wish I was half as smart as she seems to be. And boy does she know how to answers to riddles and puzzles.

Plot and Story Line

This is quite a complex story, and so the plot definitely keep you excited and anxious. From the first chapter, you are drawn into a story that you know its going to surprise you…and boy did it pack quite the punch of surprises, shocks and delights. I just couldn’t get enough of Sweet Deception. You see how this author weaves a tale of mystery, intrigue, depth, and heart pounding desire. I can be picky about the regency romances, but I swear this author keeps winning me over with this genre. Sometimes I get bored with it, but now when Heather Snow is at the helm. She has a beautiful way of creating a story that is intense, keeps your mind active, and at the same time satisfying you will a delightful romp of a romance.  There were so many things that I adored about this story. One of the things that I found delightful was how Emma is determined to show Frederick that they are worth fighting for. She can be very bold and daring, which I wasn’t expecting. At first you think of her as smart and quick, but more of the sedate time. But no, when she wants something, she goes after it, with any means at her disposal. I loved the banter between Emma and Frederick, it was quite fun and playful. Despite the seriousness of the story line, locating a traitor and a killer on the loose, but the story is also packed with a some sizzling sexual tension, and some complex character and this is a story to keep your heart racing, and guaranteed to hold onto your attention and won’t let go till the last page.

Cover

Now I will say I just love the covers for this series. They fit the profile of the story, and the cover for Sweet Deception is mysterious and beautiful. I am a big fan for the color green, I feel like its such a good color, and really fits the heroine’s style that is displayed in the story. As a whole it has a simplicity to it, but at the same time gives off a edge of mystery as well. I love her pose, its very self assured and confident–which is exactly Emma.  I love the way the dress is draped on, not too revealing, but gives off a hint of sensuality. Quite stunning.

Overall View

Sweet Deception is a is a wonderfully written romance that combines, witty dialogue, captivating characters, fast paced plot, a few twists along the way, and a breathtaking love story. Heather Snow is a author that you HAVE to watch out for. Quite simply…refreshing and tasteful!!

“My little Pygmy, ” he murmured. “Are you planning to save the world?”
“Yes,” she whispered. caught in his gaze. Something sad and cynical crept into his eyes, coloring the green–a shadow of the pain she glimpsed last night. She wanted to banish it for him. Something in her knew that even more than she wanted to make the lives of Britons better, she wanted to help heal Derick Aveline. She reached her other hand to his face, cupping his jaw. “Yes” she said again, aloud, more firmly than before. “I am going to save the world.”
And I am going to start with you, her heart whispered.

My Review

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Edelweiss and Avon Books.
Eleanor, has always been the upstanding vicar’s daughter, upstanding and intelligent and always devoted to her studies. She has never crossed the line, but inside she dreams of adventures and the one man that inspires and makes her dream of wicked delights, the sexy as sin gypsy, Taliesin. Taliesin, once loved Eleanor and would have done anything for her, but then she broke his heart without even realizing it, so he left and now after eleven years, after being summoned to a wedding, he can’t resist her. All he has ever wanted was Eleanor, despite the danger she causes to his fragile heart. Eleanor is on the hunt for her real parents, and Taliesin is her companion, even though he left without a word eleven years ago, she finds him irresistible, and now she has to work with him, and temptation is right before her, will she be able to resist or give into the greatest adventure of her life…

I have to say that Katharine Ashe has outdone herself in this series. Every single installment I have adored, and this final installment is no different.  This story really tugged at my heartstrings from the beginning, and I had such a difficult time putting this one down. I wasn’t sure at the beginning how much I would enjoy it, but I never should doubt Ashe’s abilities especially when it comes to writing romances…she has done a outstanding job of creating a tale of heartwarming characters and a story to enthrall and scenes to constantly engage the reader.

It begins with a wedding of the daughter’s adopted father, the Vicar of the town. When a guest appear, with those dark sensual eyes who sees within the deepest part of her, Eleanor is definitely overcome with feelings she never thought to feel again. But then she is practically coerced to have Taliesin as her companion in her search for her parents, and where they really came from. There are things we learn about Taliesin and Eleanor, a unique setting and what a fun couple. They were so unique to the series, and quite frankly I love sexy Gypsy’s…a man that can get a woman to have adventure and want to spread her wings. I loved both of them as main characters, they added a certain dramatic element to the story that becomes the center of the story. I really had no complaints where they were concerned. The hero is mysterious, protective and sensual. The heroine is stubborn, strong willed and passionate…put them together and you have explosions of the nuclear nature. They definitely have chemistry but one other quality they have in common, is denying their feelings for each other. They are very insistent to go separate ways, despite how much they love each other, and what a way this story seemed to convulse and form as these two rediscovered passion together and their deep feelings for one another.

Overall a stunning and riveting romance that had me at the edge all day…a tale to not forget, of two people in need of desire and adventure and find that their dreams come true if they have faith in one another…OUTSTANDING!!

My Review

I received a ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, thanks to Netgalley and Montlake Romance.

Unlaced By The Outlaw is the fourth book in her latest series “Secrets in Silk”. Now I have read this author before, one of her viking romances, and loved it. So when I was asked to read and give a honest review for this one, I could barely contain my excitement, and I will be honest…the title really drew me. Many older romance novels that I fell in love with had similar play on words of this title, and so I was curious to see what it was like…and I found I just had so much fun with this story and really had a difficult time in putting it down.

What we have in Outlaced By The Outlaw, is a story that is hard to win but so worth the fight in the end. Cain and Margaret have always felt a connection to each other, even though their love is forbidden by society. Margaret is a daughter with connections to society, but when she ends up being put in a situation by a lord, who made who shunned by the Ton, she has gone five years without finding a husband and knows it is highly unlikely. But that same lord has kidnapped her sister to try to force her to marry him, so she then goes to the only man she knows can help…Cain Sinclair. Cain is a man that lives as he pleases, he is considered not polite company with no manners to speak of, but Margaret knows that he would help her, and that if there is any man that can track her sister down, it is Cain Sinclair. Cain is from the highlands, but when his parents died, he was responsible for raising his younger brother, Jonas. When Margaret comes to him for help, he can’t turn her down, because he still loves her after all this time. And thus the adventure begins…

These two were quite the characters, and they won me over. Now Cain Sinclair, is one sexy kilted beast…He does know the art of lovemaking and seduction. But he also has quite the heart and substance, and you can’t help but fall madly for him. Beneath his devil may care attitude, he cares, and is quite passionate when it comes to those he loves. Cain is honorable and loyal, who could say no to this sexy man with a sexy brogue. Margaret Andrews, was raised to marry a titled lord, not a man with no much to his name. But when Cain enters her life once more, she is given a second chance at love. Margaret is a bit self centered and selfish at times, especially with thinking that Cain isn’t enough, but when you are raised a certain way, and only know what is expected of you, it isn’t surprising, in fact, it seemed more realistic than you would think. But Margaret changes in this story, she starts from being selfish to a woman that reaches out for that what she wants…and that is Cain, no matter the consequences, even if it means never seeing her family ever again. I really enjoyed seeing Margaret and Cain really come together and fight for each other. This story had a very high tone of sensuality to it, that will keep you entranced by the story. This one was definitely full of a pack of adventures that leaves the reader breathless, and the way he story turns out, is what you least expect.

There were many aspects of the story that I enjoyed, but if I had to pick one of my favorites, it would be the voice of the author and how smooth the story flowed together. It had a harmonious tune to it, and it was smooth sailing, reading this story. Definitely a story I won’t easily forget, a tale of forgiveness, passion and most importantly learning to fight for love….BREATHTAKING!!

Favorite Quote

“You seduced me last night. I’m a fallen man now.”
Her lips curved in a unexpected smile, and she allowed him to move in closer to unfasten the remaining buttons. “Are you suggesting that I compromised you?
“Aye. And you owe me compensation for it.”
His charm was seductive in and of itself. She warmed to him, fully aware that her gown was sliding off one shoulder. “What sort of compensation were you hoping for?
“Time, lass. Years of waking up beside you.”
